Above is the link to the Cycling by Rail leaflet.

Simply put you can't take your bike on the train if your train arrives into London between 0700-1000 or leaves London between 1600-1900.

it's been a while but last time I took bike on train ECBR-> LB they had guard's van

As an addendum:- If you were to travel on the Southern Line on a train coming out of Brighton, then you would need to know if it left Brighton between 1600-1900.

No guards vans now. You need to look for the doors surrounded in red. Provision is made at this point to secure two bikes with belts specially provided (look like inertia seat belts)
