Would a 2-1 single speed be inappropriate for this ride?

I won't be able to make it. When we were talking last week I forgot I am in Edinburgh this weekend to see a show my brother is putting on there.

Still interested in the next phase though (stretching out to Ranmore and even Leith Hill).

Did anybody turn up for this ?

I turned up late at about 10.20 didn't see anyone so left again around 10.30. I did the advertised route more or less but skipped the extension to box hill. With the weather so grim before leaving I had planned a short cut which goes from Reigate/Colley Hill straight to the back of Epsom Downs via Bansted Heath.

Even though the sun was out when I got to Reigate Hill, I took the shortcut anyway just because I had never been that way before. It turned out quite nice across the wilds of the Heath and then down a mile long narrow chalky/flinty bridleway which had that gradient that meant neither pedalling nor braking were required.

Overall I maintained an easy pace (but didn't stop much) and the round trip to Croydon would have been about 3 hours (I finished in Wallington). Quite a viable Sunday ride for the future.

Sorry not to have joined you.
I'm off on holiday on Weds and didn't want to get cycling gear filthy, run the risk of a cold and knacker myself anymore than I already am.

Expecting journey to be a bit stressful this week so want to preserve energy.
