Marco - I was actually wondering if our forum had this function the other day to ask this question. So maybe it would be a good thing.

So - any keen cyclists here smoke (I'm talking cigarettes/cigars), or else used to?

Used to.
Finally gave up with the help of a hypnotheropist at the begining of last December. Stating the obvious but feel much better and fitter for it. I even have my sense of smell back
I'm glad to say I haven't turned in to a hypocrytical frantic hand wafting ex-smoker as I still think it's up to the individual if they smoke or not.

There's a picture of a guy smoking before the start of the singlespeed champs but the forum it's on is buggered right now.

downhill Jason used to smoke loads on (xc) rides when we stopped for a break. My mate in France did it as well. I'll see if he still does in Alpe d'Huez at the weekend ...

Yes that's why I edited to point out that it was on long fast day-out rides he used to do this. And races!

Was a regular, inveterate smoker between the ages of 14 and 35, continuing even while I played football at a reasonably high level. Gave up almost in spite of myself in July 2002, after casually reading a copy of the Allen Carr book that someone had left lying around. The (cod) philosophy seemed to strike a chord with me.

Haven't looked back since. Have become a hand-wafting ex-smoker, as I now see it for the minging madness that it is. Am strongly in favour of a comprehensive ban in all public places, outside included. It's not a right, it's an illness.

I smoked a lot until around 3-4 years ago. I am a real bad ex smoker type. I move tables in pubs, restaurants, tutt and make people know I really disapprove, much to the embarrasment of all my mates, I run in front of people who are smoking when walking so I don't have to smell the stink. If work colleagues smoke I spend hours trying to convert them telling them what idiots they are.

I think cigarettes should be made illegal and that people should not have the right to choose.

Mmmm..... a new ASBO or in this case Anti-smoking behaviour order - now there's a thing. Not sure that John Reid would go for it but Stephen Byers might trail it for Tony. It really depends on how the Daily Mail responds!!!! I could see Cameron going for the kiss a smoker position.

I smoke infrequently. 1 - 2 somedays some weeks. I don't smoke socially except at weddings. I usually smoke in the back garden, and get this, sometimes after a club run. Maybe I'm still chasing the ACC buzz. However, as I am going to become a dad on January 11 2007 I set a quit date for buying cigarettes on this Monday 25th September.

Thanks guys - glad to hear im not alone in my paradoxical post club run behaviour ! Day 1 today and going fine. Brother getting married next Saturday - so will be tested by smoking on wedding theme - managed to get through stag without inhaling !

Gave up a year and a half ago. Smoked for 25 years, still get the odd urge when out on the lash, but would never go back. I was also on a stag do the weekend we went to Riga in Latvia, Great place to go with a few mates on the lash!
