Sean, you still can. I'm older than you, and didn't do a TT of any sort until I was 38. So, if I can sneak under 26 minutes on that course (which I have done, but not by much), so can you.

Went shopping and bought a £50 skintight jersey. It somehow makes me, at 10 stone, look vaguely muscular. Definitely will be wearing it on a night out now.

Hopefully it'll last more than tomorrow's TT though for 50 quid...

Aiming to break 30 mins tomorrow, my first time-trial. Then move on from there. :o

Sean I refuse to let you use age as a reason when on the digest banner you have...

Nice try but you'll have to come up with something else :)

Thanks to the 'tester' folk for all for the organisation - it was another good event.

The road home was somewhat difficult what with tired legs and Gavin setting off at a strong pace. After all we had just done 30 miles 10 of them at maximum. On the way back he slowed down big time due to the disintegration of one of his pedals sending him dangerously into the middle of the road - Hopefully You are OK Gav and managed to make the last couple of miles to Reigate to take the train - back to GB I suppose.

Finally met up with the remnants of the club run including Ajay (Ooo - I'll pay for that) whith whome I had a sociable coffee at Coulsdon.

I may not do another TT until next September as I think that I prefer my pain administered with less intensity and in closer proximity to other riders. But thanks again

Hey ho!

First a very large thank you to Tim & Joyce for running all the evening 10s, as well as yesterday's, along with all the other helpers who've lent a hand.

Decided to do this on fixed as it was my last stab at a TT this year and having seen little or no imrovement over the previous 7 thought I had nothing to lose. 8.30 at CSS for a warm up ride to Holwood. "Engine" Alan started towing us along at a brisk pace and I started worrying I'd be too knackered to start but soon got up to speed, the only slightly hairy moment was descending pebblecombe (?) with very heavy brake-riding and very manic leg spinning.

Marco got in to the spirit arriving in retro Addiscombe skinsuit  Unfortunately he then reversed towards me asking for help pinning his number on    and wearing cleated shoes I was unable to run away quick enough, much to the relieved amusement of others who had managed to dodge this task.

2nd bit of bad news - I was penultimate starter with only the tandem behind me. TT itself went okay as gear choice had been pure guess work and I hadn't had a chance to test it. Finished in 27.28 I think which was okayish as I'd had a bad 3rd quarter just after the turn with a slight head wind and struggling to keep the gear turning up the 2 rises. (had been passed by the tandem after 5mins, or 4 for them  )

Car park for times and awards - well done winners. Gavin hadn't got his rear wheel in time to ride fixed as intended but did ride a single-speed with freewheel to a 27 dead.

Back on to the bloody course to get to the cafe for a very nice coffee and sarnie before setting back through the lanes home.

All in 60 miles (beating my previous CRdistance pb on fixed) and I was very knackered, but had an enjoyable day.

- Just read Richard's account - 19.53. Somehow don't think I'll be challenging that.

I wouldn't write off your chances. This is my 4th year with the club. I can still remember my early club runs - dropped off the back but always someone around to keep you company.

My first Brighton & Back with everyone waiting at the tops of the hills for me  until finally on the way back the elastic completely broke and AJ and I were left behind with a completely bonked Rob Fallon :? I wonder what's happened to him :?: was never going to be much of a rider

My first club 10 was a long 27 which I was over the moon with.

I hear that everyone managed to get under 30 minutes which is no mean feat and I'm sure you will all go faster in the future. I suspect for some it won't be so long before they're competing at the top end of the club if they want - it would be good to see some newer faces causing problems for the 'more senior' TTers.

Well it was all going fine until my pedal snapped (yes it snapped).

I blame my power ratio perhaps I should learn to spin but difficult when you only have one gear.

Cheers

[quote]I had a great morning, despite only getting 4 hours sleep beforehand I was pleased with my time of 23:14 for 3rd place. Phil N just pipped me by 3 seconds and Jim Trenowden came in a furter 12 seconds ahead.
great time Marco. Looks like you'll be flying if you make it on sunday

First time-trial - went off very fast and died on the way back, but I think everyone did. 29'09 in the end, comfortably under the 30 mins I was going for AND "won" the last-place fruitcake to boot (and that's really what it's all about. Taking part - and free food).

Cheers to Joyce, Tim, the Coales family and roundabout marshals; definitely will be back again to improve, hopefully with as much difference in a year to show as Sean has.

Well done Andy you'll be a fair bit quicker next time, knowing the course (where and how long the drags are) will help.
[quote]went off very fast and died on the way back

It always seems a bit blowy just after the turn.

[quote]Everyone looked fast, especially Paul on his tandem

Seems even quicker when it comes flying past you and disappears off in to the distance :D .
