Stolen bikes + has anybody got a frame with horiz/track ends

Hi all,

Unfortunately I had my garage targeted at the weekend…some nice chaps with bolt cutters got in and helped themselves to:

Focus Cayo Expert 06 (54cm/Medium)
Specialized Langster 06 (54cm, with Mavic Aksium Front Wheel)
Specialized Sirrus Sport 05 (Small)

Obviously if anybody sees any such bikes for sale anywhere let me know…there can’t be many people selling second hand Focus Cayo’s at the moment!!! Does anybody know where such stolen bikes end up….I know there’s brick lane…and e-bay…any other ideas?

So I was just wondering whether anybody had an old road frame + forks with either track ends or horizontal drop outs (for a commuting fixie) that they would be looking to sell, it would need to be roughly 53/54cm c-c…I don’t really care how old and rough it is (1970s is fine!), so long as it is aligned…if it had a bb and cranks that would be very good….I’m really looking to spend no more than £50 tops…

On this subject, does anyone know of a way to mark frames etc so they can be traced.

When I had amotorbike we used datatag.. little transponders you araldited into crevices. Maybe there's somethign simpler like UV pens?

Blokes with bolt cutters targeting your garage. Seems like they knew what was in there .

I would keep an eye on your local papers.....these people can be a bit stupid.

Also definitely report to the Police, as recovered but uncliamed bikes end up being actioned off .

you can get the frame stamped with your postcode underneath bottom bracket

I have a bike that may fit your requirements.
Raleigh Club Tourist (from the 1980's I think)
Steel frame, 531 main tubes, almost horiz drop outs, 21 1/2". Good size for me at 5'10".
It's a bit shabby so I dont want any money for it.

Well you never know in Tooting

When I bought my P7 years ago the shop offered to stamp it with a hammer and letter punch

I declined . I think you can get transponders for bikes which you put down the seat tube

where in Tooting are you ?

yes - there must be something better than stamping it! .. I guess the frame will have a number, I can write that down and quote it I suppose.

Sorry to hear about the thefts and hope the above helps out when the insurance coughs up.

Don't stamp it. The police used to stamp a number on your frame but that was with steel frames. You don't want to do it with anything else, maybe not even your steel frame.

Also there is this which is run by the Police and includes a datatag in the Gold service for £21.

Have been very tardy and done none of the above but will buck my ideas up now. Not sure how effective they are and guess they can only work if the Police recover the bike(s) but better than nowt.

Sorry to hear about the theft, Its also worth looking at car boot sales at the weekend near you, Had a mate who recovered the tools stolen from his van by doing the same, no police involved just the gentle threat of voilence and all were returned.

I found power tools, worth about £600, stolen from the boot of my car in Mitcham the next day at Jeffrey Collards tool shop in Thornton Heath. I had reported it to the police, so I was able to go back to the shop with two uniformed officers and claim them without having to put my martial arts skills to the test.
So its worth not giving up looking for them, but you need to move fast because they tend to unload stolen goods pretty quickly - they know where to take them. Cash Converters is a favoured place theres one in West Croydon- dont know if theyre selling bikes these days, Jeffery Collards used to have the odd one or two as does De Ver in Norbury, cant think of anywhere else - but dont give up yet.
