my 10 reasons for cycling through winter....

Postby Stu Merckx Man » Wed Oct 04, 2006 7:29 pm

hi folkes, my 10 reasons possitives to cycle during the winter

1= chances are, less riders out meen a smaller chance of bieng embarasingly overtaken.

2= can tell how much other people on the club runs are suffering by their breath.

3= tis the season of christmas...(escuses for more gear :D )

4= can buy a 'cheap' winter bike but come out with a machine better than your old one 'woops!'.

5= tea at the cafe does not over heat you ! just gentally warms you up :P

6= the water in the bottel is always cold !

7= one is able to wear more head and face gear and so when we are going embarasingly slow, we won't be recognised

8= blame the lack of your speed on the 'layers of clothing acting like a parachute'

9= go to the bike shop with the intention of buying some winter gear...coming out with a new full carbon bike with rekord gear set!

10= we won't sweat as much and so we will appear much fitter to the public

a bit of help to anyone dreading the upcoming winter.. :D

stuart... :D

The thought of sliding on a patch of black ice.......

Drivers not clearing their screens/windows of dew and ice properly and pulling out in front.....

Wearing shorts over tights (other than in the security of your own home? Prehaps thats just me  ....)

The endless washing of your bike and bits.....

The cold numb fingers and toes after a CR even though you bought the "BEST gloves and over shoes in GB's"

The cramps after a ride when you get back home and warm up.

I Can't Wait.......Bring on Winter

I tend to do more miles in the winter than in the summer anyway and I don't mind the cold but I am getting older.....

Only ridden in snow a couple times in the UK, but it was memorable. Fresh snow actually grips quite well. Ice though is lethal, I remember a ride in Shirley Hills where the track at the top was like an ice rink, most of us who rode it went down on our bum.

Oh and I'm still waiting for the stem and seatpost! ;-)

Stu,

Sylvain is a hardened single speed, take no prisoners type of rider so a mere bit of cold weather surely wouldn't stop him.

Belated birthday greetings Sylv.

I think I will go geared.

I also put back 8 gears on my commuting bike - and enjoying it very much (what's going on ?! ).

Riding on snow is brilliant!

The last time it snowed I managed to get a few rides in Richmond Park.

Absolutely brilliant! It was completely deserted, and I spent a happy couple of hours riding around.

Oh, I was on my mountain bike by the way - not doing laps on a road bike
