ACC team at Bec Hill Climb?

Postby Tamar Collis » Tue Oct 03, 2006 9:14 am

IMPORTANT, IMPORTANT, IMPORTANT, please read and spread the word.
This year, those nice people down at Evans Cycles in Gatwick, are assisting our event by helping out with some of the printing. For a change, your start sheet will arrive through your door(if you have entered!!!) in glorious full colour, programme format, complete with pics & sponsors adverts, all the information you should require for a trouble free ride, plus anything else we can manage to squeeze in.
The down side of having such a wonderful piece of literature to add to your collection, is that there is a non negotiable printers & designers deadline for getting things underway which is the 11th October…...
So, please note: The closing date for entries to this event will be 6.00PM TUESDAY 10TH OCTOBER,

This would be the date that all entries should be in normally anyhow, but in the past I have tended give a little leeway, mainly in desperation of gaining a few extra entries!!! Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on which side of this keyboard your sitting at!!) this cannot be the case the case this year WITHOUT exception. So if ya clubmates have said they’ll enter, please check that they have to save any disappointments..And if you post it late give me a call to check that I have received it or not…..

For your guide, clubs that have so far entered enough to qualify for the team award are, Bec C C (3), Lewes Wanderers CC (3), 34 Nomads (3), PCA (5)

Ingear RT, Cambridge CC, Rapha Condor, all have 2 entries so far. Theres quit a few individual entries, a couple of which are pretty useful at this anti gravity game. 6 of the fairer sex have put pen to paper so far in the ladies category, & 8 in the vets. At this time of writing ther are no entries for the Jnrs cat!!!!

In anticipation of you all spreading the word…. Many thanks. GB

Prize List

Useless fact No:1 :

ticket ) £11.50 per inch!!!!

OK, having been laid low over the past weeks I thought I would give this a go to end the season on a HIGH!
Haven't got the B section on the CTT entry which you need to fill in mind?
Is this the hill I'm thinking we tackled on the Wed summer eve rides.
Should be able to get some ACC team(S) together me thinks.

Yes why not
Bit of competition though ...

Hi All,

Latest news from the Bec CC hill climb nerve centre, is that the prize list has been enhanced ‘even more’!!! A generous young lady out there who wishes to remain anonymous, has donated a further £20 to the kitty for the fastest womans prize.
That now means that the Jnr & womens awards will now be £20 each, rather than a combined Jnr/Womens prize. Thank you very much Ms……………

Whoever takes the lantern rouge position will in addition to winning an led rear lamp, also get a fiver which has also been donated to the prize fund so that they can go buy some extra batteries!!!. Again many thanks……

On the entries front, they have been trickling in fairly consistently giving us almost half of last years field already. This is an unprecedented number of entries this early before the event, and we hope is a sign of a record amount of entries taking part in the event again.
But be warned, if you haven’t sent your entry in yet, put pen to paper and get it into the post asap & just in case we get a full field and you miss the boat!!!!!!!! Field will be limited to 120 riders as per CTT regs.

A couple of the more notable names who have already entered & are ready to hurl themselves up the hill are, last years winner, Jody Crawford, Evans cycles RT. Who assures me that even though he hasn’t raced too much this year, is absolutely on form to try and take the hill record, and lead the Green & Gold army of Evans RT to a 2nd successive victory in the team competition. (at the moment he’ll be doing it on his own though, as there is no sign of any of his teamates entries here at ‘Titsey’ control!!!)
Throwing their hats into the team competition we have some newcomers to the hill, in the form of the PCA boys. More noted for their successful performances on the road, and criteriums series this year, the boys in blue are being led by Tony Gibb into making an assualt on Titsey, and are pretty confident that they will walk/hobble away with a sizeable amount of the prizelist.

I guess the biggest name, in more ways than one, to take up the ‘Titsey’ challenge so far is the one & only Team Liquigas rider Magnus Backstedt.
Magnus, who has never sampled a hill climb event in the traditional sense as we know it, tells me that he is looking forward to the challenge, and that he has a hill similar in distance and gradient near to his home in Wales that he uses for training & sometimes goes up on the 53!!!!!! The sight of the ‘Big Fella’ on a bike is awesome , but getting himself up Titsey on a 53 x whatever is going to be a tough challenge, and maybe something he’ll review when he arrives for the competition. Of course it could all be just a wind up to psyhce the rest of ya‘s out!!!

A first for our event, and maybe any Traditional hill climb in the UK as far as I can find out, is the entry received from Handbiker Dave Abrutat, of Team mastercard / GB disabled Squad. ‘Abs’ assures me that after climbing Alpe D’huez, the Galibier etc etc this year, that he is ready to take a little hill like ‘Titsey’ by storm, and maybe start the ball rolling for other disabled riders to join the hill climbing scene.

Catering for those of us neither brave nor masochistic enough to actually enter the events, Paul Tunnell will be leading a club run taking in both the Catford CC Hill climb (AM on Yorks Hill) and the Bec (PM on Titsey).

Meet 9:00am at CSS (weather permitting). Bring low gears!!

Yes. Rough surface , very steep, in a word evil.

Good luck to any who thow there hat in the ring you won't regret it, the crowds are always fantastic. I'll cheer on with the rest of the "neither brave nor masochistic" group. :D

Snoop, it's 2pm 1st rider on Sunday October 22nd, but you have to have your entry in by 6pm Tuesday 10th.

Sylvain - with Mark and Snoop I think that's enough for a team...But my masochistic streak has kicked in and I've decided to throw my rather tatty hat in the ring as well. When else am I going to have the chance to ride in the same race as Big Maggy! Entry going in the post tomorrow.

I am afraid that you'll have to recruit some of the others who go up hills as quick as you if you want the £900 though :D .

Mark, and all the others who want to enter, the form can be downloaded at CTT Forms. Click on "Entry Form" (not the "Front Only" one) and this will give you the section B you need.

Right enough rambling I've got a form to fill in.

No need to worry Sylvain as reigning ACC Hill Climb Champ you'll fly up it. :D
Catford as well - err, no. Still plan to join Paul for his ride in the morning and just leave them a bit early to get Titey if needs be. As it's a TT are you going to use your Dolan jon  .
