Yes why not
Bit of competition though ...
Hi All,
Latest news from the Bec CC hill climb nerve centre, is that the prize list has been enhanced ‘even more’!!! A generous young lady out there who wishes to remain anonymous, has donated a further £20 to the kitty for the fastest womans prize.
That now means that the Jnr & womens awards will now be £20 each, rather than a combined Jnr/Womens prize. Thank you very much Ms……………
Whoever takes the lantern rouge position will in addition to winning an led rear lamp, also get a fiver which has also been donated to the prize fund so that they can go buy some extra batteries!!!. Again many thanks……
On the entries front, they have been trickling in fairly consistently giving us almost half of last years field already. This is an unprecedented number of entries this early before the event, and we hope is a sign of a record amount of entries taking part in the event again.
But be warned, if you haven’t sent your entry in yet, put pen to paper and get it into the post asap & just in case we get a full field and you miss the boat!!!!!!!! Field will be limited to 120 riders as per CTT regs.
A couple of the more notable names who have already entered & are ready to hurl themselves up the hill are, last years winner, Jody Crawford, Evans cycles RT. Who assures me that even though he hasn’t raced too much this year, is absolutely on form to try and take the hill record, and lead the Green & Gold army of Evans RT to a 2nd successive victory in the team competition. (at the moment he’ll be doing it on his own though, as there is no sign of any of his teamates entries here at ‘Titsey’ control!!!)
Throwing their hats into the team competition we have some newcomers to the hill, in the form of the PCA boys. More noted for their successful performances on the road, and criteriums series this year, the boys in blue are being led by Tony Gibb into making an assualt on Titsey, and are pretty confident that they will walk/hobble away with a sizeable amount of the prizelist.
I guess the biggest name, in more ways than one, to take up the ‘Titsey’ challenge so far is the one & only Team Liquigas rider Magnus Backstedt.
Magnus, who has never sampled a hill climb event in the traditional sense as we know it, tells me that he is looking forward to the challenge, and that he has a hill similar in distance and gradient near to his home in Wales that he uses for training & sometimes goes up on the 53!!!!!! The sight of the ‘Big Fella’ on a bike is awesome , but getting himself up Titsey on a 53 x whatever is going to be a tough challenge, and maybe something he’ll review when he arrives for the competition. Of course it could all be just a wind up to psyhce the rest of ya‘s out!!!
A first for our event, and maybe any Traditional hill climb in the UK as far as I can find out, is the entry received from Handbiker Dave Abrutat, of Team mastercard / GB disabled Squad. ‘Abs’ assures me that after climbing Alpe D’huez, the Galibier etc etc this year, that he is ready to take a little hill like ‘Titsey’ by storm, and maybe start the ball rolling for other disabled riders to join the hill climbing scene.
