MTB ride on Sunday ?

Postby higg » Fri Oct 06, 2006 3:48 pm

With the cyclocross being cancelled this Sunday, it gives a chance for an extra MTB ride. For a change I was thinking of joining the Nirvana group from Westcott. It leaves from the Nivana shop in Wescott 11am on Sunday. Anybody interested ?

(There is a train from West Croydon to either Dorking or get off early at BoxHill&WestHumble for a 45min cycle there through Dendies Vineyard/Ranmore)

Just checked the train times and unfortunately there's eng works on the west croydon line so the train option is direct from Clapham Junc. (9.42), Mitcham Junc (9.54) or Carshalton (10.00) or Sutton (10.04) or Box Hill (10.26). This is a direct train which arrives in Dorking at 10.28 which should give enough time to get out to Westcott for 11.00. It's only about 3 or 4k on tarmac.

You may have some other way of getting to there so I'll meet you at Dorking Stn at 10.30 or Westcott at 11.00.

BTW thats Dorking (not Dorking Deepdene or West Dorking)

I'll PM you my mobile no. just in case.

If the 3-4 hour nirvana ride is not long enough there is the option of cycling off road back to Croydon but then there is also the train.

The Nirvana ride was a bit of a mixed bag, about 15 in total, very few hardtails, they don't hang about either. There was a bit of congestion on the first tricky climb (some will know it, the steep wet section after Rookery Lane). Alastair and myself were close to the back and then people in front started slipping and stopping. I managed to get up in the group but Alastair got caught half way up when another group started down against him. We lost the group after that but were happy to wander around finding a few new trails on the way.

We saw the group again when we got to Peaslake for "tea" but left them go and had a more relaxed ride. After a burger in Ryka's we ended up cycling back to Croydon (via Roman Road and Epsom Downs) so it ended up quite a long day but the weather was good so it was OK. Got back around 5 after starting out at 10.30.
