second hand bike shops?

Postby Stu Merckx Man » Sun Oct 08, 2006 9:06 am

does anyone know any second hand bike shops?

preferably in the surrey, croydon, londonish area.....

or if anyone wants to sell an old steel lugged frame they don't want, but, that would have been good in its time if you see what i mean, i would be happy to buy it. (the reasoning behind wanting to know the shops) :D

cheers

Dunno if its still there (I don't live the UK anymore) but there used to be a place on the Clapham High Street, down near the bridge.

They sell new and 'previously owned' bikes. Last time I phoned them they had a reasonable selection.

That's it Apex Cycles (Thanks Google) http://www.apexcycles.com/

Good Luck

Worth trying Youngs Cycles - Martyn Young there, at 20 Kingsway, Coney Hall, West Wickham. Bit irregular opening (usually closed Wednesdays), so call first - 020 8462 8888

I got knocked off my bike right outside there about three years ago. They didn't come out to help - just carried on drinking their tea and looking on with bored detachment. Even the estate agent across the road was a better Samaritan.

Not that any of this should influence your purchase - just thought I'd add a bit of local flavour.

There is one underneath Elephant and Castle Railway station.
My last look showed they weren't cheap.
Bromley Bike Company (in Bromley strangely enough) sell some used bikes they get as trade ins. They sometimes have some real gems.

They're called 'Recycling'. I would avoid them for a number of reasons. One, as Sid says, you'll be paying top whack for whatever you find there. Two, many of these bikes are almost certainly nicked. Three, they're not exactly oozing charm in there.

Four, my one experience with them was not a positive one. The bike I bought from them (a Specialized Allez alloy) suffered catastrophic metal fatigue at the BB as I was going up Holborn Circus one fine day. From Charley Gaul to Charlie Corolli in the blinking of a black eye.
