Dragon Ride 2007 Early warning

Postby huw williams » Thu Oct 12, 2006 4:05 pm

The best just got better!

Just got off the phone with the organiser and next year's Dragon is gonna be huge!

2225 rider entry capacity and an extended course of 200km. For those of you who know it - you go up the Bwlch twice!!! and traverse the majority of the course in the opposite direction to previous years.

It's going to be the biggest sportive in the UK. Ever!

Entries to go on line a week earlier than last year probably around Boxing Day. Be warned that last year's capacity of 1500 was sold out in just three days.

Date of the ride is June 24th so stick it in your diary now.

If you've never heard of it, next thursday's CW will carry the report from this year's event

I love the training part of it, its just the event that i have probs with... i'm sort of "mentally defficient" and think i can't do it or i will fail.. i hate failure as well- so much so that sometimes i wont bother coz i know it won't work.
I do love getting the miles in tho.

Time you faced-down your demons I reckon. Besides, I think there are going to be a lot of ACC'ers on this one to share your pain.

You'r training starts on the 4th November, ToSH course. See you on the line :-)

It's on the ride in CW that the Swedish guy did two weeks ago - long but not too steep. It'll feature at about the 1/3rd way round point where it'll be hard, then again as the last climb where it will be absolute bloody hell! But once over the top, Oh boy... a massive 40mph descent on sweeping bends and long straights, than 15 miles downhill at 25mph plus through the valley to the finish - worth the torture of the rest of the ride.

Excellent - that should be just enough to push my average speed into double figures!

I know what you mean Ian. I was plagued with that same fear of failure for most of the season. But you know what? - you've just gotta get out there and do it otherwise that fear holds you back. Don't worry about failing just give it a go mate, thats what really counts :D

Sounds like the symptoms of 'psychological puncture syndrome'
Ask Ajay how to get over it. He's the expert.

Haven't run it past head office yet, as Ninder is due to go into labour anytime in next 2 weeks, so discussion has been about carpets, painting, bedroom furniture, birthplans, vitamin k and schools - I thought about slipping 'dragon ride' onto shopping list but decided against it as not wearing full protective body armour yet. I read the small print on the application and the good thing is although you cannot get a refund, you can transfer place to a friend (or enemy more like looking at the route) for 5, in case I suffer from psychological puncturing. After reading Huw's write up this looks THE Cyclosportif of 2007.
