Replace 27" fork (threaded) with 700c fork (threadless)

Postby Matt Robbins » Thu Oct 19, 2006 12:04 pm

Hello All,

Putting aside the obvious like requiring a new stem....what would happen if I replaced a 27" threaded fork (currently running a 700c wheel with Ahlonga long drop caliper) with a 700c threadless fork.

Would the smaller size of the fork cause a noticeable downward slope on the bike as a whole? Am I just being thick...I can't really work it out!

Ta,

Matt.

No worries peeps...got the reply I needed from somebody on cyclingplus....if anybodys interested see below:

"lets see...

a)
difference in wheel radius = 4mm, plus a bit as the 700c fork will probably be built with less tyre clearance than the 27" fork was.
Call the new fork 10mm shorter

b)
wheelbase = 622 + 2x25mm tyres + gap between f&r wheels of 400mm?
Call it 1100mm

head angle will get (10/1100 = 0.009 radians = ) 0.5 degrees steeper.

Generally head angle is specified in 1deg increments, so I doubt you'd notice."

....damn I wish I was clever...
