Well I think Graham has summed it up for me - no I don't want this to take over my life. It has to be a nice distraction rather than the reason for being, although I know some among you will disagree.

So before you all get too bored, yes I have opted for that combination of status and utility, a Colnago C50. Rohan at Dauphin this afternoon did a good job "it ticks all your boxes Alan" and he spent about an hour an half talking and measuring, so I left a deposit on the most understated but I think nicest frame detail. The rest of the spec is still under discussion so I may yet need further advice. But of course, thanks for all your contributions - I have enjoyed them greatly and now I will look forward to enjoying the ride.

Cheers

Good choice Alan, my vote went for the C50. I think Colnago's have a certain classic class to them, although I'll never be able to catch you now. :D

Should look nice, some of their other paint jobs are a bit iffy.

Nice one Alan. This will be the completion of a steady transformation in recent months to ubercool retro cyclist

As the biased owner of a C40 HP over the last 3 years I must say that it has been a great all-rounder (pity I don't have the legs):

- 10 mile TT
- Club run
- Etape
- Retro art for above the fireplace (when the missus allows)

My view is that there is only one choice for groupset...Campag. I know pro teams have mixed shimano and colnago but it's like 80s fashion, regrettable. Appreciate that you run Shimano on your Specialized but that shouldn't sway your decision.

As Andrew highlighted watch the dodgy paint schemes. Think of it like a tattoo, you'll have it for a while.

That's a nice bike GB has for £399! Would it be road-worthy if you coult fit a front brake?

Yes, and at that price it's a decent deal. If it's a true Pista the front fork won't be drilled for a brake, but it might be worth getting at this price and swapping for a replacement fork.

You'd want a smaller gear though unless your name is Matt Ives and you ride the CR on a 90" gear. :D
