Well, just a quick word, In the 3/4ths the ACC gang did not make the placings but I had a good race, it ended in a big bunch sprint, started with a field of 98 although riders were dropped there were a lot in the front bunch at the end.

BUT as a proud Dad my 8 year old came 3rd in the under 10s and won 6 pounds so he was well pleased with himself - even got to stand on the podium!

We left as Sylv was begining his third lap and seemed to be going well.

In the mtb race, Joel led us into the singletrack. Mick Bell then went past and I managed to stick to his wheel for a lap and a half, then had to let him go when he increased the pace. Stuart McGhee (Evans) then came thundering past me on his singlespeed ( ! ), I don't know if he managed to catch Bell but he was flying. Later on I got caught by Shawn Blakey (Beyond), he was never far ahead but I just couldn't get back to him (I'd like to think it was because of the road race earlier ...).

If everyone had stuck to their category (Bell is a vet and McGhee entered the ss class but was later changed to Masters) I'd gotten 2nd, but had to settle for 4th, and Joel was 8th. Average speed 23.5km/h.

In comparison the road race was a walk in the park - well from where I was at least. Amazing how easy it is when you spend most of the time sheltering! There was a crazy wind too, so any attacks were quickly brought back. From the mid-pack I saw Marek and Simon do a lot of work (Simon attacked from the whistle!).

The last lap got really sketchy (98 riders!), I think there was a crash at the back at the first hairpin, and on the back straight there was a near-miss just in front of me at 35mph - locked my rear wheel for a second. Lost some places and couldn't get onto the right side as I'd wanted, was feeling good for the sprint but there were just too many people to dodge in the way! Another near-crash on the right side, I think I ended 14th, not sure about the others (Kieran, Paul, Marek and Simon). Average speed 38.8km/h.

Saw the end of the E/1/2, there were a couple of British Champion jerseys in there, and I think it was Matt Seaton and another guy had a 1/4 mile lead, and crossed the line together holding hands - looking pleased of their achievement.

Well I really messed up, thought I had the fitness to be able to lead from the front and keep going all the way to the end, but I died at about 30 - 40mins into the race.

At the front everytime it slowed down about 10 riders would come flying down the outside, so to keep your place you had to go with them or you would end up mid pack, and I can tell you this is not a good place to be with so many riders around. So I was trying not to go on the front but every now and then I was having to take a turn to be able to keep the pace high. A few times I had to sprint up the hill to the finish to make up a few places and this really drained me after a while.

Unfortunately after 30 - 40 mins that is where I ended up, mid pack and trying my darndest to recover in time for the finish. I left it all too late and have to admit that I had absolutely nothing left for the finish anyhow.

Well at least it was nice to race the final Eastway and to finish it off I got the chance to have a chat with Magnus Backstedt who had come up to watch the race. He is a really nice bloke and we talked height and bikes, something we both have in common.

I was trying to contain myself as much as I could, I just wanted to stay as close to the front as possible, it was so tetchy half way down the pack it felt a lot safer at the front. Anyway, I may go and show those Elite boyz a thing or two in the Ottershaw series, whereever that is.

toks, im going to give it a go...my licence is free because im counted as a youth (born in 1990).

at my age it just all seemed a bit daunting havng to wait untill the next season.

if it is all a bit to harsh for me ill just wait untill next season...but im kind of conditioned to crapp weather,cold and frost bite (joking about that one) after years of rugby and cross country trhough the winter months

i have taken on board your advice and yes you are probably right ....but i thought long and hard for the best part of the fraction of a second it took me to read the words 'yes...yes' ..and well i dont think i can face training all through the winter with nothing to realy aim for, for which to me seams ages away without getting a bit bored...if anything the sooner i start competative cycling the more likely i am to stick it throught the winter without getting to bored.
its been ok these last few months because i was always aiming to get to a higher group, now im in the training group i need something else to aim towards to keep me fully motivated..
