Stu, I am pretty sure it is actually only a winter thing. Maybe call someone from Dulwich or pm David Kennett, he will know.

Cheers

[quote] But as RichV says it is our club and if we want something out of it we should try and put something into it, but again some information from people with past experience or with links to the committee would be helpful.

For example if I wished to organise a training session (for beginners and experienced trackies) at Calshot (?) velodrome (is this our nearest covered one) how would I go about it? I was taking with Kevin and some others about track racing at the Dinner and would love to try it out. I know AC did a session there before.

Kieran, if you want to do this:

(a) Contact Calshot find out if there is a session available at a suitable time, how much it would cost (including coaches) etc.

(b) Try and get some gauge of interest.

(c) work out if there is likely to be a shortfall between contributions from riders (I would suggest you should aim to charge riders between £5 and £8 for taking part in something like this) and the actual costs. Most of these things will pretty much cover their costs anyway.

(d) if you want the club to cover any shortfall ask Phil Nash/Tamar Collis/Mark Leadham (new Track Secretary) . They'll raise it at the next committee meeting or if you need an answer quickly it can often be sorted out by e-mail.

Good luck :!: I'd be interested if it was at a convenient time.

Last I heard, they did summer and winter.
However, it's apparently a lot faster than the training group.
I remember Brett Perez reporting he got dropped and he's a 1st cat or an Elite...can't remember.

don't know if useful but last calshot trip (that I went on) was organised by paul tunnell, so he may have info, I think we had a group of 10 or so and paid more like 20 quid each to cover exclusive hire inc. bikes and 2 track coaches?

The dulwich chain gang is well hard. Got cramp on my first go. They did wait for me though.

They are quite friendly and will accommodate new riders. They do different rides in the summer and winter. I hope to do this regularly next year.

In the summer, they go up layhams road and then down to pilgrims way.

In the autumn they head down the A21 and out to polhill. I am not sure if they are still going. Best to pop along to elmers end roundabout on a thursday at 7.15 or so. Check out their website.

It would be good If we tried to do this ourselves next year. i.e. a fast midweek ride round a fixed route. Perhaps on a Thursday eve.

Anyone else up for this....

Just to put the speed in context, on the club run two weeks ago in the training group we did the dual carriage way through and off bit at an average speed of 25mph from the usual start to just before Charlwood. So can you keep that up for an hour and maybe over hillier ground? I don't know the route but can't get much flatter than the through and off bit.

nah, despite Toks advice to the contrary, I'm doing long slow steady winter training rides hence the low speed

It does seem a good route. No really steep hills but some longish drags to keep your HR up and make the quads burn.

Unrelated - but as this is a popular thread: I see on the Dulwich website that the club seems to have a couple bike boxes that they share usage of between members by a bokking system.

That's a great idea, shame I didn't see it in time for the AGM to propose if we could think of something similar. I'm thinking of those solid, wheeled boxes that retail for around £200-£250.

Problem is we don't have a permanent HQ where to store them.

Postby mrP(Boonen)VT » Thu Apr 05, 2007 3:23 pm

My new found access has opened up a world of ACC that I never knew existed.
I have been putting in 110% into performing my role as I saw it of Road Race Secretary, collecting entries, providing info, guidance where possible and collating results. Thanks to those of you that have defended me.
I am not, for my sins a terriffic motivator, like Keith Knight was or Toks, but I am doing my best.
There is mileage in getting someone to take that on, but who is going to stand out from the parapet and do it? yep, it's gone quiet.
Great, we can have a club coach, but who is going to volunteer to go through all the training courses required? quiet again. I did them once, then BC changed the goalposts and I'd have to do them all over again to qualify and I really haven't got either the time or the inclination at the moment.
It always seems strange to me that people will discuss issues on a forum, yet not raise the issues face to face or at committee meetings.
Please talk to me and see if we can resolve any issues.

Paul,

I'm fairlynew to this lark so correct me if I'm wrong.

Half the battle as I see it is not motivating / coaching but being more of a coordinator .

I find I''m looking on this site and that . Then entering various races / sportives then finding loads of ACCers are doing something else . I bet plenty more riders would turn up for races if they knew other ACCers would be there.

I'm doing several sportives this year but I dont know who else in the club is doing them and I think its the same with racing .

I wonder if we should have somewhere on the site that lists races / sportives that we are all doing that way could organise meeting places or lifts.
