Roundtrip Commuting Distance?

Postby Robert » Fri Nov 24, 2006 2:15 pm

In the quiet days of the off season from racing, we, the cycle commuters amongst us, are all quietly racking up the miles on our daily commute. How far do you travel on average daily commute?

In the summer I have been sad enough to extend my daily commute up to a round trip of about 55 miles.

In the winter my commute is a total round trip of about 6 miles. That is 1 1/2 miles at each end of a return train journey (I love commuting out from London in the morning. Mmm, empty trains).

When the clocks change so it's light at 7pm, I have a 32 mile one way commute home through the North Downs in Kent from Chatham (innit?) to Bromley. I still use the train in the morning, though. So my summer commute is 35 miles per day. I don't do it in winter 'cos I'm scared of the lonely, singletrack roads through the woods in the dark.

Bloody hell Dominic, I thought I was at the boundary doing approx 35 on four out of five days, with it going up to 70 when I ride down to the eveining 10s during the summer.

Sean where is Col du fontaine? Waterloo 8.50, a bit sedentary, I cross just after 7.00am not a lot around apart from dozy bus drivers.

Zero at the moment, never bothered as I've always thought the route would be too stop-start in traffic. About to start as I've become increasingly frustrated with the quality and cost of public transport (got the rack and lights now so no going back :D ) and I think it'll be about 12 - 13 each way, so call it 25 round trip.

Might be tempted to join "the Col" group occaisionally as I'll be leaving London Bridge at a similar time and have to head that way.

[quote]1 mile each way. fixed gear of course!

Marco, do you don full lycra (not that skinsuit  ) or go for courier chic :D ?
Would like to do mine on fixed, but no way with Crystal Palace hill to get over (as well as a couple of other lumps).

I just measured it at lunchtime 0.5 of a mile each way - thats, let me see, 1 mile per day therefore 5 miles per week. No climbing either and I the bike sometimes won't go past Beer Circus

[quote]Andrew if you can do the Bec Hill Clim then CP will hold no problems for a power house like yourself.

 Now I know you're taking the piss!

Blimey no wonder you're so fit and fast :D . Fair dos you tend to make up for the lack of climbing to work with your job. I'd rather go over CP than the Belaarrgggh or whatever it's called.

I'm in the poll "gap" as well.
21 miles give or take 1/2 a mile depending on which route I take. I'm also another on the Col de Fountain Drive every day.

I sometimes see Tamar on my commute: usually as she turns right and avoids the climb up college road to Crystal Palace.

I'm assuming she rides on and sprints up Gypsy Hill instead.

Does anyone else feel a bit pressured by people trying to race you if you wear your ACC kit?
