Another new frame topic - Setavento?

Postby Elliot M » Wed Nov 29, 2006 4:36 pm

Been vaguely thinking about a new road frame/bike this year.

Main reason being that my Cannondale is slightly too small for me, although I've put up with it for 4 years. There's quite a large toe/front wheel overlap and also can't fit a mudguard on the front, not even a Raceblade.

I'm quite keen on Ti and not very keen on carbon fibre - both for all the usual durability reasons.

So looking quite hard at Setavento (http://www.setavento.com/Setavento_RR_F ... otos.shtml)
£650 for a semi-custom Ti Frame

Doesn't someone in ACC have one?

There's also Omega's Helix - but it's a bit of a jump to £995
(http://www.omegacycleworks.co.uk/radius.htm)

Any other opinions?

I gots me an airborne (van nichols now) i bought a reynolds fork (carbon), i dont know if there are many ti forks about, you could always go old skool steel. Paul at bikes plus is very knowledgeable, ti is a very smooth ride- Connor has gone down the ti path as well, tho i think he went to condors. Why not buy a frame only and hang all your old stuff on it ?

Cheers for all the links and tips people, esp re Omega.

Looks like the Enigma Echo is the new Omega Helix at £999.

Re the thead Marco linked to, I didn't know Butlers did Van Nicholas, I haven't popped in for a while.

I don't have a problem with carbon forks, easily replaced if damaged. In fact I have a new pair of Ritchey Pro full carbons waiting to be used...

Yes I could switch everything across from the current bike, but I am tempted to go to compact 10 speed.

Just thoughts at the moment though, I don't make decisions lightly...

However, looking at the RoadCyclingUK review the weight of the Setavento is a shock, 19.5lb for a bike with that spec - Record triple, full carbon fork, Neutrons, no pedals!

My current bike with 105 triple, Sciroccos, heavy old bars, stem, pedals, alu steerer fork, 100g of gel pads under the bars is lighter.

I guess that is part of why it's so cheap.

Hiya Elliot,

The new Airbornes or Van Nicholas bikes as they are now called look pretty impressive. All titanium framed road bikes with prices to match your type of ride; fully customisable etc...

The change of owners has meant they all changed from being named after American helicopters to winds except the Chinook is still in there. I think the Euros is the best all round ride. The detailing on the frames is good and combination of Easton forks and Ritchey seatpost and stem makes for an impressive looking frame and comfortable too thanks to the ti.

The Euros model advertised is £1373 inc campag vento wheels and Veloce compact 10 speed, should be right for you? Looks nice any way if only i hadn't just bought my Bianchi Via nirone was looking at ti frames.

If not Setavento also looks good. CHeers Kasper ,
PS Are you out on the clubrun this weekend ?

Hi Kasper

I do like the look of the Van Nicholas, that Euros definitely good value. Chinook is both a helicopter and a wind isn't it?

Just noticed that Setavento will do a lighter model for another chunk of cash. I need to do a lot more thinking before I buy anything though.

Yeah intending to be out on the clubrun although I have the first party of the season on Friday night which may jeopardise this...
