Yeah sorry! Don't blame me, blame Elaine (girlfiend). There I was chillin on Sunday night in front of the box and it happened. Bless her, she innocently asked whether I would be taking things a bit easier next year. After all I'd reached my 2006 goal of 2nd cat racing status, I'd already got gold in the Etape in 2005, and also I'm now training 'more scientifically' so hence less hours on the bike.
Now I can't remember my initial reply but it was probably something like, 'yeah thats right babe!' Big mistake. I broke some cast iron relationship laws: 1 ALL QUESTIONS REGARDING CYCLING ENDEAVEOURS MUST BE ANSWERED IN FULL. 2. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL/MAY RESULT IN POTENTIALLY HARMFUL FORFEITS AT SOME LATER DATE. There's others of course but we can discuss them another time.
So back to the 'what are your plans cycling wise' for next year question The consequences of my glib answer resulted in the TV remote control being instantly removed from my possession and the question being repeated very L O U D L Y and C L E A R Y...Ok I'll spare you the details but I managed to turn the atmosphere around before bed time... In fact I've almost finished putting up lining paper in her hallway in case you guys are interested. Ok so here goes 2007 goals.
1. To try and gain between 50-70 points as a 2nd cat
2. Win a Road Race
3. Go under the hour on a road bike
4. Do a short/long 22 on a road bike
5. Do at least five cyclosportivs and get gold in each one
PS. I look forward to reading your goals guys!!. By the way, they've got to be measurable/quantifiable. So no straddling fences with wishy washy half stepping efforts such as "i' wanna get fitter", "I wanna do more racing", I wanna lose weight", "I wanna finish the etape". Don't get me wrong they're all laudable aims but not specific goals. So unless you're fairly new to cycling - put a number on it .psssss Don't tell Elaine
