Your 2007 Cycling Goals please!!

Postby Toks » Mon Dec 04, 2006 3:02 pm

Yeah sorry! Don't blame me, blame Elaine (girlfiend). There I was chillin on Sunday night in front of the box and it happened. Bless her, she innocently asked whether I would be taking things a bit easier next year. After all I'd reached my 2006 goal of 2nd cat racing status, I'd already got gold in the Etape in 2005, and also I'm now training 'more scientifically' so hence less hours on the bike.

Now I can't remember my initial reply but it was probably something like, 'yeah thats right babe!' Big mistake. I broke some cast iron relationship laws: 1 ALL QUESTIONS REGARDING CYCLING ENDEAVEOURS MUST BE ANSWERED IN FULL. 2. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL/MAY RESULT IN POTENTIALLY HARMFUL FORFEITS AT SOME LATER DATE. There's others of course but we can discuss them another time.

So back to the 'what are your plans cycling wise' for next year question The consequences of my glib answer resulted in the TV remote control being instantly removed from my possession and the question being repeated very L O U D L Y and C L E A R Y...Ok I'll spare you the details but I managed to turn the atmosphere around before bed time... In fact I've almost finished putting up lining paper in her hallway in case you guys are interested. Ok so here goes 2007 goals.

1. To try and gain between 50-70 points as a 2nd cat
2. Win a Road Race
3. Go under the hour on a road bike
4. Do a short/long 22 on a road bike
5. Do at least five cyclosportivs and get gold in each one

PS. I look forward to reading your goals guys!!. By the way, they've got to be measurable/quantifiable. So no straddling fences with wishy washy half stepping efforts such as "i' wanna get fitter", "I wanna do more racing", I wanna lose weight", "I wanna finish the etape". Don't get me wrong they're all laudable aims but not specific goals. So unless you're fairly new to cycling - put a number on it  :D .psssss Don't tell Elaine :D
Toks,

I was out with the Dulwich on Saturday and some guy called Tom said hello. Tall bloke in Citihub.UK team kit siad he knew you from Eastway....

Goals for 2007? Basically aim finish the 2007 Nove Colli event still able to walk and of course put in a decent time. I won't be racing so the focus will be on improving overall fitness and edging ever closer to the times set by messers Viney & Hemmings. Won't race i hear you say? Well, I'm not shelling out £30 for a licence I know i won't use, however I will go for a provisional in the new year.

Cheers

Sean
Yeah his quite a nice bloke. In a 4th cat race at Eastway in Feb he broke away from the pack with about 10 to go. I stood on the climb and kept giving him shouts of encouragement and letting him know how far ahead of the bunch he was. Eventually he won it with about 15secs spare...Where's ya numbers Sean???

Sean I think Toks wants to know if you will be doing numbers twos on your bike or have you got something else in mind, personally I tend to go before I leave the house.

Come on Paul, give us a clue. Something to do with your lactate threshold and your wattage per kilo I am guessing.

Is this TT talk?

My guess is a 25m TT in under the hour?
and a 10m TT in 22 min?

My initial goals:

To build up my 'new' bike in time for spring, offically in time for first Palace race (specific, measurable etc)

Get some BCF points.

Do a cyclo-cross race

Do a 10m TT sub 25min (>24 mph?)

Once these achieved more advanced goals:

Get 3rd Cat
do a 25m TT sub 1 hour 10min (>21.5mph)
Do some track races (not just the saturday morning training sessions)

Great goals Stu, Re number 4, have you won any of the Charlwood sprints yet?

I think you mean Functional Threshold Power rather than Lactate Threshold power remember there is a difference. What about your racing goals?
Ah ha... ok mine are...

1. To try and finish the Nove Colli, short route in a decent time
2. Get weight down to 13st to make #1 easier.
3. Do a sub 25 10.
great stuff Sean, now we've got some numbers to beat you with if you start slacking
Get some BCF points.

Do a cyclo-cross race

Do a 10m TT sub 25min (>24 mph?)

Get 3rd Cat
do a 25m TT sub 1 hour 10min (>21.5mph)

Sub 20:30 10mile TT.
Sub 56min 25mile TT.
Sub hour 25mile TT on a sporting course.
Sub 2-hour 50mile TT.
Top 10 overall in Spoco SE competition.

Not decided about doing long distance TTs next year, but if I do:
Sub 4:15 100mile TT.
240+ miles in 12 hour TT.

Didnt know there was a difference. My racing goals will depend on how close I get to my AT/ftp/lt4 goal.
