God i hate public transport! Train and tube to and from work, and am doing half an hour on the turbo trainer when i get home. My cast comes off on the 20th, and what i was wondering is if anybody has had a simular injury and how long it took them after they had their cast off till they were back on the bike again.

isit your leg youve broken?

if it is i broke mine this time last year and when the cast came off i couldnt do anything but have warm baths and stretches for a few days. but one of the first things i could do that did not hurt once the cast came off was ride a bike! so a couple of days. but nothing to harsh because you can crack your ligaments by over extending/bending them because they have been kept stationary for so long. so probably between a couple of days and a week.

they even advised me 'gentle' cycling to build up the muscle and joints again as one fo the first things to do!

Sorry forgot to say it's my wrist i broke. But cheers for that Stu, that has made me feel better as i imagine a broken leg to be worse than a wrist.

I dislocated my elbow & broke my fibula in July last year. Was in plaster for 2 weeks then an external hinged support contraption for about another 6-8 weeks. Once out of that I was back on the bike but had to start gradually and build up time/distance as I regained strength. Initially I found my arm ached badly after half an hour or so and felt too weak to use the gears & brakes. But regular physio exercises sorted it out eventually back to 95%, but it's still a bit dodgy.

So when the plaster comes off, make sure you exercise your wrist. Oo er missus.

broken bones

I broke my radial head, the narrow bit of the bone at the ball and socket joint of your elbow last year. Got the all clear from the hospital after six weeks and started riding, the only thing that hurt was my legs!

Cheers everyone, i do miss the club run on a saturday morning! Cast is off on the 20th so fingers crossed its fused and i can get out on the bike.

You might want to try a Powerball to build the strength up again.

It worked for a mate who had a very bad break of his radius and ulna.
