A school teacher was arrested today at J.F.Kennedy Airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, slide rule, set square and calculator.

At morning press conference, Attorney General John B. Ashcroft said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-gebra movement.

He did not name the man, who has been charged with carrying weapons of maths instruction.

"Al-gebra is a problem for us" Ashcroft said. "They desire solutions by means and extremes and sometimes go off on tangents in search of absolute value. They use secret code names like "x" and "y" and refer to themselves as "unknowns", but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of axis of evil with coordinates in every country.
As the Greek philander Isosceles used to say, "There are three sides to every triangle"

When asked to comment on the arrest, President Bush said, "If God had wanted us to have better weapons of maths instructions, He would have given us more fingers and toes".

White House aids told reporters that they could not recall a more intelligent or profound statement by the President.

Out Of Office Reply.

I will be out of the office in meetings in Denmark for the next 20 years. I'm sorry I can't respond to your message in person.

To summarise the scheme for anyone too pushed for time to watch the clip: while it's proving popular in some quarters, it does have its knockers

Following on from Commissioner Bent Koch, here's someone else who might like to consider changing his name by deed poll were he ever to move to these shores:

Must remember to ask my source where he 'stumbled' upon that one...

Lurching violently off topic, I've just read a report on the BBC website of the tornado that hit Kensal Rise the other night.

Now I know no-one likes a clever Dick, and do appreciate that it must have been a pretty scary experience for all concerned, but was nonetheless struck by the 'loose' English of three eye-witnesses.

Amanda seems to have seen Judy Garland, "literally". Maya, who was "absolutely shrieking," had her hedge trampled on by giants. And poor Julia has an extremely violent, tree-destroying, window-smashing boyfriend.

[quote]
"It literally was The Wizard of Oz," a shopkeeper, identified only as Amanda, said.

"It was just sucking things up into it. There were tiles. There were bits of wood. There were trees."

Actress Maya Sendall said she was "absolutely shrieking with shock" on the telephone as the tornado neared her home.

She said: "It sounded like a train going by and it shook the house. I saw the rubbish bin going by and my hedge flattened by about two or three feet.

"I did not hear too much of the crashing because the sound of the wind was astonishing."

Student Julia Haughton, 22, who heard the tornado, said: "There was a thunder clap and it felt like the house was falling in on us. It was really frightening.

"My boyfriend ran out just as it had gone through our back yard and pulled down our neighbour's tree. When I came out, all the windows were smashed."

(Edited once for typo!!)

Closer to home at work I used to deal with the following:
Mr. Clench
Mr. Titt
Mr. Glasscock
Sadly I never got to get them all in the same meeting as I'd have loved to do the introductions. :)
