A friend of mine swears he once met a Norwegian guy and had a conversation a bit like this:

Friend: What's your name?

Norwegian: It is odd.

Friend: That's ok. I'm studying Swedish. I'm used to unusual names.

Norwegian: No, you don't understand, my name really is odd.

Friend: Look, I don't care how weird it is, just tell me your name.

Norwegian: My name is Odd. O-d-d, Odd. Oh, and here's my friend from Oslo. He's Bent.

Well done Marco for being first off the blocks with the good Doctor de Cock.

ahhhh, memories. Years ago, before I got my job as Britney Spears' partybus driver, I use to be in insurance. We had some crackers on our client list:

Mr Bustard
Mr Smoker
Mr Dinner
Mr Oliphant
Ms Lily Pond

and (drum roll puhlease....)

Mr Fuk Yu Man (and by god I swear it's true).

Those were the days, now all I have to do all day is drive a bunch of champagne swilling filthy rich blond bimbos about the place, t'choh!

Fares Please! Snoop (s'been a long week)

Mais non mon ami, je suis seulement Monsieur Snoop.

Mind you, I did act in a couple of Skool plays and folk have endured my geetar playing live and in yer face for many a year now. But alas, I do these things for love, not ye filthy lucre. And what's more I've never owned an equity card.

However, the bit about Britney Spears is true.

Trust this helps

Yours snoopily

Blimey, I think I have made the decision not to go down the all Carbon Fibre route now that I have heard a few horror stories. I will investigate some of the ligher alloy frames.

Cheers

I remember reading a bike review by Boardman once where he commented on carbon bars and stems. He said that even as a save every gram tech geek he never used them as he'd seen quite a few break under the stress they get (I think Davitamon had this problem when they switched to Ridley's and had to keep sending bits back). That just leaves your face heading towards jagged carbon very quickly. Never even considered carbon bars/stem after reading this (mind you I have a carbon steerer so...).

I'm sure most are great and my fears may be irrational, but at least alloy bends first not shears straight off.

i'm not keen on buying a carbon frame myself, but it does occur to me that pretty much every new bike has had a carbon fork for 5+ years and you don't hear of many failing.

re the scott story, isn't merchantable quality, fit for purpose, etc all down to the shop not the manufacturer?

I think that if Scott or the shop admit liability in any way it opens them up to legal action / product recalls / brand name dragged down in the press / damages etc etc so I think that they will always take the "not our fault stance"

The only way will be to take them to court (shop first probably) but if you lose you end up paying the costs which will hurt......

Justice.....at a price :(

Alex said : I think that if Scott or the shop admit liability in any way it opens them up to legal action / product recalls / brand name dragged down in the press / damages etc etc so I think that they will always take the "not our fault stance"

But Scott could, as a goodwill gesture, replace the frame (or discount a new one) without accepting responsability at all.

The attitude they appear to have taken in this situation won't do their image any favours.

I know I'm always deeply impressed with manufacturers who promptly replace broken or worn out parts even though they have no obligation to do so.

I agree, the loyalty gained far exceeds the expenditure.

Oakley and Specialized are great examples of this, I had an old pair of M Frames that cracked - sent them off to Oakley to be repaired and they sent me a new pair - fantastic I thought - I'll stick with them. Same experience with a damaged helmet from Specialized.
