i can see why george is killing us all on the club runs. i went on his regular power training route.
met up in selsdon then right at sainsburies to go down that hill. we were straight into it with the first climb, but i felt ok. it was fairly long and steep, but nothing compared to the pains comming my way. cant remember the name of it though.
the next hill was chalkpit hill i think, very steep and fairly long. george flexed his muscle here and easily hammered his way to the top quicker than me. it was mental torture, some bits where so steep the back wheel kept on spining out, meaning we probably climed two of the hill !
i think the next hill was ide hill. not as bad as its reputation makes it out to be. a long drag all the same, this time i managed to stick with george, though i think he was going easy.
then it was onto (i think) toys hill. george just toyed with me here. about half way up he asked if i wanted a race to the top, (i thought we already were!!), as soon as i said yes he was off !! once about 70m ahead he started zig zagging across the road with a big grin on his face...perhaps he goes there for a pleasure rides??
i think next we did a bit of titsy hill, and then onto the hill where the becs hill climb race was on. it was painfully steep, and again george thrashed me to the top. the wheel kept on spinning out again, at one point it was so steep the wheel would not grip at all and i nearly fell off!.
then on our way to the next hill there were a few accents that i usually would have called hills, but compared to the rest of the ride they are not worth mentioning !
the last hill i think was bug hill. similar to chalkpit but not quite as steep. but hurt like hell after the ride we had just done....again george beet me easily to the top.
after that hill we went to wallingham, had a nice saussage and egg role and a coffe, then off home.
thats georges usuall training ride, so now we know why he is flying!! i can see where the power bit comes into it...although i wouldn't say i was particularly powering up them george certainly was. i probably missed a couple of hills out but there were so many to remember !
the actual root we took was 41 miles with an avs of 17 mph. a nice 52 mile round trip for me, though i think ill need a good 6 months to recover from it!!
cheers
