Woke up late for the CR, so decided to head over and race at Hillingdon.
Your Mission = to get to 3rd cat
Started off with the 4th cats, there were about 25 of us racing today.
The fog was starting to clear which brought a nasty little headwind up the back straight, I thought this might come in handy later.
First few laps I was just sitting in the middle of the peloton taking it easy, but the pace was pretty slow so I got up near the front.
I always seemed to find myself sitting right on the front dragging everyone up the hill, not intentionally I might add.
Had a chat with an elder rider and joked about which lap we should break away on, he seemed well up for a laugh. Every now and then a rider went off the front, but they weren’t gonna get away with it that easily.
I looked around the group and could single out a couple of tasty looking riders so, I approached one chap quietly and said “lets go for it alone next time round on the back straight†but he said he was still recovering from riding on the front the previous lap.
5 laps to go board and I was feeling very good, I decided to launch my attack very soon.
3 laps to go up the hill and I went for it, don’t worry I didn’t give the game away by mooing like a mad cow!!
Glancing over my shoulder on the back straight and they were all 200m back strung out down the circuit, great my plan had begun to work. I knew for the next 2.5 laps I would have to go flat out if I wanted to stay away.
Ding ding last lap!! After the horseshoe onto the back straight, I’d lost the peloton but those 2 handy looking riders were in hot pursuit just 30 – 40m back.
I shouted over my shoulder “come on guys lets work together†I let them come through and latched onto the back of them.
This gave me a great breather so coming round the bottom corner into the last hill I blasted past them both.
One of them dropped off, but the other stuck to my wheel, there was no way he was coming past!
I just kept it going sprinting with all my might and got a bikes length on him over the line.
I gave a victory salute as I crossed the line, It’s gotta be done hey.
A great feeling of euphoria of winning afterwards kept me warm for the ride home and also the guy who came second rode back most of the way with me.
Mission Accomplished!!
