Gorrick Spring MTB Series

Postby sid_day » Sat Dec 23, 2006 11:49 am

Entry forms and dates for the Gorrick MTB Srping series are now up:

http://www.gorrick.com/racing/spring/

These are great relatively local MTB races mostly in the Windsor forest.
The conditions are usually dry so it's a chance to get away from the clay and mud round Croydon.

Good for a taste of MTB racing. The field is not to big and the atmosphere is friendly.

Sylvain and I have done these in the past and the courses are interesting but manageable for a first taste of racing off road.

"Just to let you know that the Gorrick Spring Race Series entry form is now available to download from the website and with entries arriving already, it looks like there's going to be another bumper turn out of mountain bike racers at the start of the new season. If you don't yet know, you can now enter ONLINE as well as by post, and many of you took advantage of this during our Autumn events.
Huge thanks for your support during 2006, we look forward to seeing you at our events in 2007. Have a great Christmas break."

These are definately worthwhile, I did my first Gorrick way back in 1993 and have not looked back since.

It's good to try out a race and they have a beginners/fun race so that you can see what it is like and it is a great sense of achievement when you finish. Even if I do not feel up to racing I turn up to try the trails that they have cut as they are usually very good.....

Give it a go....

An open event for all abilities riding mountain bikes. No club membership or licence is required. A beginners category is available to those who have not raced
before but would like to give it a go.

Are you thinking of taking part? A few years back the Gorrick races had a singlespeed category, but I can't see it anymore on the entry form.

Shame as that would've been a good incentive for me too - not sure I want to do the xc-whippet masters category.

Can't make the first date though.

I'm planning to do as many as possible.
I'll be riding Single-speed in the Masters cat: 3 laps.
They have a "Super master" cat which is 4 laps.

I really enjoyed the ones a couple of years ago, it was a nice change from riding in the Surrey hills.

I'll try and get Howard interested too.

I might be tempted to have a go. I raced last summer's final Southern XC race (run by Gorrick) at Yately Heath Wood in the Super Masters category and found the pace very tough indeed - probably tougher than Beastway. Very well run event though, and with a good turnout.

I'm hoping they'll have some courses that include open country with epic climbs and downhills, in addition to the singletrack that the past few XC races I've done have almost exclusively comprised. I enjoy singletrack as much as the next guy but I like a bit of variety in a race course! Also, my bike handling skills aren't that hot...

Yately Heath was one of the tougher courses in previous years.
I think there are some new venues this year.

They are all fairly close to J4 of the M3.

The area on the map is flat but the feature of the courses is the undulating ground and bumps which make it difficult to sit down.

I'm planning on racing in Masters on my Single speed.
