Too right. Did a couple last year and enjoyed them. Nice cake at the end, as I recall.

Definately will do some, though not sure which yet. Yes it was damn fine cake, the date and walnut made struggling up the hills worthwhile.

The best three courses are the Catford, Sydenham and Old Ports.

See you all on Toys Hill

Looks like this one has been re-branded as 'The Hell of Ashdown'...

http://www.londoncyclesport.com/news/ar ... 77/V/1/SP/

...and quite right too 'cos its ruddy murderous. Penshurst, Fordcoombe Hill, Ashdown Forest main climb, Toys and Star hills at the end. Don't listen to the lilly-livered spiel of the organisers saying that you deserve a certificate for going under 5hours. NO YOU DON'T! You're not getting away that easily!

We're going under 4 hours. Considerably under 4 hours in fact. Last year I did 3hrs 40mins so come January I want a crap, sorry, CRACK team of ACC riders out aiming at a sub 3.30 ride.

So. Any takers?

A full set in Kent would be quite an achievement - Not my ambition though! I will do any that I can but it will depend on weather and other interests - My memories of riding back to Crystal Palace in torrential rain are still to strong! But no doubt Huw will avoid such problems - BTW Huw, well done with the published articles this week.

Thanks Alan - last couple of years we've been luck on the RTs and avoided any rain. Fingers crossed.

28th Jan, 11th & 18th Feb.

Not sure I'm looking forward to them, but having committed to riding over big lumps in Italy I suppose I should get the odd long hilly ride in first.

My dates and motivations exactly. Except that I may do the West Kent one on 16 Jan as well, just cos I did it last year.

Edit: make that 14 Jan for the West Kent one.

I'll definately be doing a few of these, probably the Knockholt ones as I can get the train there or cycle, distance wise it doesn't look much further from Grove Park than Cousldon.

The cake at the West Kent one was excellent, but even that can't tempt me over there for the 9am start on a Sunday, the others are that bit more convenient.

I think that I may have been the only taker from ACC but probably not?

Got lost on the way there - ended up on the way to Dover! By the time I arrived it was only reasonable to do 45Km. I set out on my own, but quickly met an Italiano from Hertfordshire. He had been cycling in circles for half an hour and returned saying he would like to ride with me - OK - fine - well he seemed to have lost his route and map, complained about all the hills, repeatedly asked how far to go to the end, was dropped up hills and down and lost his time card!!! Anyway I dutifully stayed with him, waited at every junction, and by the end, on some flatter sections he seemed to be OK. We finally arrived - 2 hours 30 for 45 Km! - I had the nicest piece of bread pudding and tea and thought that he might join me - but he disappeared!! hey ho

Well anyway, it was a really nice day and the route was brilliant and I got in some slow and hopefully fat burning miles.
