Thanks for all the nice responses - sorry about the dura ace but in the end I decided to go for the known and tested because i didn't want to change the set up on what will now be my winter bike.

Not sure of the size - it all got a bit technical because of the slightly sloping geometry and I somewhat lost the plot along the way - but Rohan at Cycledauphin has the info.

It being a very sunny and dry day i had half an hour on it this afternoon - too early to say but I couldn't fault it so far - I guess summer may come early this year!

Thanks for all the early input and ideas - the owner of the shop, Dave Flemming, delivered it personally which was a nice touch.

So how does the C50 score on this test?

It's the little things that make the diffence on a classy bike.
In top gear and cranks a quarter to three for the photo, nice. Lose the seat-pack and get the wheels lined up in unison and it's perfect. :wink: :D
Something hilly at the weekend to give it a good test?

Ian, It is a she, 'Beryl' after my mum who, if she were still with us, would be pleased that I am spending her money just for fun!

what model easton wheels are they? been thinking about a new pair to do justice to my new (sylv's old) bike.

Ah! well 'spotted' Sylvain and a reminder to fill the bird feeder, but not really a passion just an occasional pass time.

Yes, it is a compact and the wheels are ascent 11, only a few left at dauphin, i gather before they replace them with a new but less good model

It doesn't have to be 100% French! ;-)

I was doing this (very hypothetical) shortlist of carbon tubulars based on price, reviews, weight and looks and the Eastons came second to Zipps either 303 or 404 for racing wheels.

But

a) cost (someone in London can get the Zipps for £840, but still!)
b) impracticality (you don't really want to be riding those wheels in potholed London on the way to Crystal Palace or Hillingdon, plus you have to swap brake pads between wheels as they pick up debris from alloy rims which would damage the carbon). Also all the hassle associated with tubular tires.

But apparently riding on tubulars feels soooo much nicer than on clinchers. Maybe in a year, when the rims of my current wheels wear out ...
