funny heart rate...

Postby Stu Merckx Man » Thu Feb 01, 2007 8:45 pm

was going to do some intervals on the turbo trainer tonight, but when i tried to get my heart rate to 90% it wouldnt budge above 88%. no matter how hard i went, legs burning like crazy etc etc it wouldnt go above.

i went for a long hard hilly one yesterday, could this have had an effect on my heart rate today?

cheers

If you're going to do an interval session on the turbo you need to be rested to get the maximum benefit, otherwise best to just rest and recover. As you've found, the hilly ride the day before needs time to recover. Best approach, as Marco suggests, is to take your heart rate daily and take a rest/recovery day after every hard session. Too many back to back hard sessions will wear you out and performance will plateau.

Stu,
It's easy to slip onto 'a more is better' type of training, but if you remember you don't get stronger/fitter while your on the bike, it's while your off it happens. So if you train hard, rest hard !

I think I've perfected the rest hard part of the equation.
