Help needed! (not bike related)

It's not a lot of work but would mean the world to me.

If someone can record on audio tape from the internet (a radio station that broadcasts on the net, so if you have your hi-fi linked to the computer), this coming Sunday 25th from 9am to 11am, please get in touch. It would be greatly appreciated. I can provide 120 minute tapes obviously. Maybe you can record on CD but I've no idea how - not techie enough.

It's a Swiss radio that I used to listen to as a teenager, which is celebrating its 25th birthday with special programs and presenters from back in the days all weekend. I'm away in Sweden from Friday unfortunately, and it's only broadcast live.

There are other programs over the weekend I would love to hear/record, but the Sunday 9-11 would be a great start.

hi sylv - if you can play it on your pc you can record it - direct from your soundcard output to an audio file, then you can save as mp3, burn to cd etc

you can use a free apllication called "Audacity" to do this.

NB it's just occurred to me maybe you're asking because you won't be near a pc, in which case this won't help... I will be out myself.

edit: did you edit to explain that, or did i manage to not see it?

This takes me back to my youth, taping the Top 40 show from Radio 1, then trying to edit out the DJ talk-over bits at the beginning and end of each record to make up compilation tapes. Those were the days

The best bit on this radio was the talking though! Well no the music was great and miles away from the commercial crap I was used to on French FM radio, but the presenters were just awesome. I'm not familiar with them but maybe something like the Goonies in UK in some aspects. At the time I was listening to it practically all day long.

I just used it to turn RealAudio RAM files from radio programmes - not available as podcasts - into MP3s so I could put them on the iPod. But you can record anything going through the soundcard.

All you need to use in Audacity for this is the record, stop and save buttons

Thanks for that. I contacted a friend who still lives near Switzerland and is a bit of a Dj, he has found a software STATION RIPPER which apparently allows to burn hours of internet radio broadcast, and has useful functions.

I'll get more info in it today I think.

Ok my friend the Dj seems to have it sorted with stationripper.com.

He has ripped two radio internet broadcasts including C3 all night without problem. He says the software is awesome.

So the software worked and ripped (most) of the programs, turning them to mp3 - even the songs, in individual files with titles! (some have a bit of chat at the start/end).

I also found out all the programs are actually still available to listen online ...

There's loads of pictures and stuff on the Couleur 3 website. A great, atmospheric video from 1990 here http://www1.rsr.ch/couleur3/25ans/video.html (the one at the bottom right of the TV screen) with background from Stone Roses and Love & Rockets.

They have also published the list of "reperages" songs that were on the constant playlist, from 1983 to 2000 http://www1.rsr.ch/couleur3/25ans/histoire18.html

This has prompted me to do a massive, 6-CD compilation of the best of those from '89 to '92.

Great fun tracking the songs I'm missing on ebay/hype machine/itunes/torrent. I'm almost there (missing "Mr Odd" from Jazz Butcher, "on fire" by Dave Stewart and "I'll be your chauffeur" from David J, if you can help!)

By the way, does anyone know if there is a limit to how many times you can burn on CD a track bought on itunes?
