Alfold 3rd Cats

Postby Marek » Sun Mar 11, 2007 4:54 pm

Result:

1. Andrew Strong - London Dynamo
2. George Brent - ACC
3. Paul Hone - ACC
4. Marek Siwicki - Mosquito Bikes (2nd claim ACC)
5. Max Ramirez - Mosquito Bikes (2nd claim ACC)

We all came across the line about three minutes ahead of the peleton. Fantastic first race of the season, shame George did not win it but it was a great break. Well done guys.

Good to see Paul Tunnell back in the mix, blimey he looks completely different with his new slim line physique.

Cheers

Marek....

Was really geed up for the race today, beautiful sunny day a full starting grid. On the way down in the van Paul and I were talking tactics how we would breakaway with the support of the Mozzies, little did we know how true this would turn out.

At the signing on met up with Marek and 2 other Mosquito’s in their new kit. Adam was there also but unfortunately for him he couldn’t get a ride as there were too many riders already entering on the day, so he would cheer us all on and race the afternoon 2/3 cats.

Huge Peloton of about 60 odd riders the first lap we were all together. A couple of people went off the front but nothing too strong not to be reeled back in.
I tried to stay up near the front with the other mosquito’s.

The next lap Marek went off the front and was joined buy one other guy, he looked strong but they stayed within sight and after 4 miles were back in the bunch.
Then Paul H come up near the front and I knew it would be soon that we would launch our Addiscombe attack!

Paul Tunnel was up the front with me giving me some advice, we saw a Paul and a couple of Mozzies fly off the front, Paul T pushed me and told me to go with this break, this was the one.
I obliged and bridged the gap just as there were 2 laps to go, still 25 miles almost an hour of racing left we started the breakaway.
In the break were Paul H, Max, Marek, a Dynamo and myself.
I went to the front and started pulling hard so we could get some distance from the group. We were all taking turns for the first 10 mins, I didn’t even look behind to see how much of a gap we had bought, just head down gunning it.
The race officials cars and motorcycles really gave us the taste of a pro race, which was even nicer when the cghap on the motorcycle would quite often give us feedback on how far ahead we were. 1 min, 1min 30, 1 min 40, 2 min, 2 min 40, great we were easily in control pulling away and now knew our break would stick.

Coming up the hills at the back end of the circuit Paul, Dynamo and myself got some clean air between Max and Marek, I think those 2 suffered a bit and had to dig deep to get back on almost half a lap later.

It was just Paul and myself doing all the work well the dynamo guy was also doing his fair share.
I felt very relaxed and fresh I wasn’t getting too much out of breath and tried to do more pulling on the front, just because I felt so fresh.
Towards the finish the people were cheering us on, Paul went for it with a mile to go, I bridged the gap to him but the dynamo was sticking to my wheel, I felt strong and was ready to pounce ahead alone.
Then the dynamo guy went off and oh no I could see the finish line crowds 400M ahead I was sure we had 1K I was caught with my pants down, oops. I responded by sprinting hard but he just beat me to the line, Paul came in just behind followed by Marek and Max.
Great race just a little gutted I messed up the end of it but still well happy that we had 2 Agreeables on the podium.

Fantastic results guys! :D

Paul and George, you've been looking super strong at the start of this year, and no surprise Marek's strong as ever. Also Paul T's race experience comes to the fore again.

I bet the Dynamo chaps face was a picture when he saw your two pairs link up with him.

Hey George, I raced against Andrew Strong quite a lot last year and he was always there or there abouts when it came to finishing. I think he was really dissapointed not to make 2nd cat last year so he's been racing all winter. He's not really a sprinter so it must have been a win more on impulse. Don't worry you'll get him next time. Chapeau

Good effort fellas 8)... one tpi George -from reading your account it loos like you towed ythe eventual winner up to your teammate who'd gotten a gap. If anyone should have been bridging it should have been the Dynamo with you on his wheel

W'hey.....

Me thinks that an addiscome / mosquito 1-2-3 isn't far off. It looks like addiscombe is going to have a good year.

Well done to all....

Ta,

Graham...

Hey George I hope you don't mind a bit of analysis on that last part to of your race i think its really important. Picking up on what Phil said also its worth remembering:

1. When there's a two against one situation ACC's v Dynamo the winner on paper at least should come from the team with two guys (ACC).
2. You and Paul got the first bit right : Paul went for a long one
3. At this point all you needed to do was stay alert and force Andrew Strong (LD) to chase Paul with you stuck on his back wheel.
4. I know its only your 4th or 5th race so enthusiasm probably got the better of you.
5. If it happens again try and think of the bigger picture - getting an ACC win.

Ha Ha I'm only jealous cause I was never strong enough last year to get into many breakaway. Once again, Chapeau

I will take heed from these points!

In the heat of the race it's tricky to know whats gonna happen.

Hindsight is the most accurate sight.

Now in the future I will now what to do tactic wise.

Indeed I'm still learning and put my hand up for mistaking where the finish line was comimg up.

I could see before that Andrew wasn't as strong as us, we should have had him collectively as a team.

Early season and this must be used as a learning Opportunity :)

It was a learning experience for both George and myself.

I'm sure George meant to attack the rest of the group rather than tow them and as he was the strongest, it would have been hard for him just to sit in and let me win.

I did tell George to go for it before I did as I knew the others wouldnt have a chance of catching him but as he didnt, I thought I would.

If we got the tactics right, it would hace been 1st for George & 2nd for me.

There is always next time but for some reason, I dont think it will be so easy.
