Speaking of divs and sheep

A Scottish mate of mine called Dave Stewart was a clueless div who raced for about 30 years, devoting all his life to it but never progressed beyond 3rd cat - the only time he was ever away from the bunch and certain of victory was in a race north of the border when a sheep got under his wheels on a bend close to the finish and fetched him off.

He gave up shortly after that and became a race photographer.

[quote]What tactics would the experienced racers like Toks recommend?
Seeing as the the Mozzie v ACC alliance worked so well and assuming everyone is fit and up for the challenge the following:

1. Try and make sure there's either 1 or 2 ACC or Mozzie in any breaks that go. The one's to really watch are those that go after the halfway point of the race.

2. If you've got a team mate in the break stay near the front of the pack (but don't help pull the break back. Also 'sit on' any chasing breaks that try to form. If you do a turn make it quick and get to the back

3. Don't chase down team mates in breakaways but if it looks like its gonna come back together make sure you're in the right place to either iniate or react to new breaks that form.

4. Unless the pace is really slow don't all gett in the same break. If it gets caught you'll possibly all be knackered and may miss the key break.

5. Towards the end if nothing has happened (and none of you are sprinters) you can 'Gap the bunch'. Hence George pulls away from the front while you're sat on his wheel you. You just pretend to keep pulling while a gap begins to grow between you in second place and say George in front. I've seen both DP and Lon D's use this in the last ten minutes of a race very effectively. Oh and Chris Hoy in his world cup Kierin win I think

6 If there's quite a few of you in the break towards the end with perhaps 1 or 2 other riders refusing to work one of you you must mark them in case they try a sneaky maneovre,

[quote="Robh"]Sure you want to be discussing tactics openly on this forum when anybody and I mean anybody (like from an opposing club) can view this board...

Lol, I've seen php forums where some sections can be allowed to a restricted number of members ... maybe we need a "secret acc tactics sections"?

Its all common sense stuff really isnt it, its just a case of remebering it all when the heat is on!

We'll need to have a team talk i think before the start...

Good tactics Toks.

Are there any other "unwritten" rules to follow when racing teammates.

i.e. say a number of ACC/Mosquitos are in a breakaway. If George is in the break and doing big turns at the front, some us may not be able to do turns and have to sit in. In that case, what should these people do at the finish - help George win, sprint past him or should George try and drop them before the finish?

Ooo the six million dollar question. The answer is it depends.
1. If you're in the lucky position of being out alone together you can agree to sprint it out.
2. If you've got a good sense of fair play and recognise that without his hard work you wouldn't stand a chance of placing then REALLY you should let him win
3. Remember if you 'fcuk someone over' by doing the dirty just for the sake of 1 or 2 points you'll be a marked man.

Finally just make sure that everyone knows whats expected (race tactics) before the race start

Er no dude it isn't. Common sense is keeping a lookout for pot holes and bringing your license with you to a race. Once an actual race starts most people myself included get brain fog and start doing all types of sh1t they typically wouldn't do if their adrenaline levels weren't running at level ten.
