sportive prep rides - Tunnell's vision

Postby huw williams » Tue Mar 13, 2007 5:00 pm

A great opportunity tp prepare for upcoming sportives or just a chance to make a complete fool of yourself on the 1st April.

Mr Paul Tunnell, who these days is a svelte 8st7lbs (it says on his manager's press release) and capable of great speed uphill as well as on the flat, is intending to lead a club run to the coast the day after the ACC road race, sunday 1st April.

So, anyone unable to ride on saturday 31st march due to racing/marshalling/other commitments, please join in.

The destination is Bognor (120 mile return trip), which probably means a merciless climb over the south downs at some point but I'm assured that its a ride for all and a 'steady pace' will be observed at least until we're back in Surrey on the return leg where the rubber hits the road, the hammer goes down, the shackles come off and, well, you get the idea... the last 15 miles or so will be a tear-up.

Suggested start time is 8.00am at CSS. Please post here if you fancy doing it so we can get an idea of numbers and see if it's worthwile.

Paul has also looked at covering the London - Canterbury sportive route in its entirety on April 21st. Return trains will accept 8 riders, there are some to Charing X and some to Bromley South a few minutes apart. Cost between £10 and £15.

Again, please post here if you are interested. Further details to follow.

Marco,
I think it will be like the L2B, people streaming in from all directions- it will probably look like the Amazon river and all its tributries(sp) with all the people coming in from all the side roads.
I never bothered to enter as i was at work and it was sold out by the time i got in.
A few of us may "hook in " for a part of the ride tho and bail out at tonbridge - i may even crayon a number on a piece of card or get someone to help me.
Not at all happy about the special 1000 places for sport-tours.

I'm in for Bognor on the 1st, Huw.
Would like to do London - Canterbury but it depends if I do the SCCU 25 the following day, will let you know shortly. I'm not doing both even if Mr.T is
Cheers,
Andrew.

As far as we know they're not going to close any of the roads - which means they remain legally accessible to the public - which means if you just happen to be out riding between London and Cantebury on that day you have every right to be there.

Amazing - I've also heard of several other clubs planning an extended ride into Kent on that day too!

Rumours of a crtitical mass turnout around the Tonbridge area remain hitherto unsubstantiated though

[quote]You've got to be kidding me. Enjoy, if thats the right word. I know I'm lacking dedication to the cause, but 08:00!!?

How are you going to get to your TTs for 6am then Sean :D . (Or are you going to follow my tactic of last year and only do 2pm ones? - I think the fast courses are early starts though so if you want your 25mins..... )
