Racing this weekend... 18th

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Where is the HQ for the dunsfold race on sunday?

On the surrey league site it says Winn Hall, if so wheres that?

But Paul T said it was Alfold Crossways Village hall again...

Im confused, its not hard, but i am all the same!

Also, given my experience yesterday, i am now inclined not to ride the addiscombe organised race on the 31st march. Im thinking about offering to marshall for it instead...

Then do the 3rd only race on the Cutmill circuit. Who was going to do the addiscombe race, and is anyone doing the sunday as well/instead of?

Whoa slow down there cowboy! First of all March 31st is ACC main Road Race promotion this year and hence its important to reprazent if you're a true ACC roadie. Stop all this 'I'm not riding it nonsense'. Last year Jack rode it as a newbie 4th cat and I rode it as a very average 3rd cat (nowhere near as fit as Paul H and George).

You've had a mini blip but its not a disaster. They'll be lots of Mozzies and Agreeables to hold your hand. Now get a grip otherwise I'll expect a 3000 word discussion on "The cardiovascular, metabolic and neural-muscular adaptations required by healthy participants in amateur road racing" :D

Adam, your first RR at the next level is almost always a shock to the system but you can and should adapt if you approach it with the right mindset. I personally am going for my Cat 1 licence this season, but last Sunday my heart rate was racing for the first 45 mins simply from adrenaline and nerves! It's quite likely you expended some nervous energy and I can also tell you that being at the back of a field is tougher when the elastic is stretched, i.e. on short sharp climbs and after going through corners.
My advice for the next two weeks - do your longish Saturday rides or Sunday rides with the HR monitor and stick to an average of 75%-82% percent for these, i.e. Zone 3. But during the week, between now and the race, get out and do some intervals without the HR monitor and ride on feel. Do about 1.5-2hrs if possible and during the efforts really, really push it, then push a bit more. You could perhaps do a session Tuesday and Thursday, with a brisk 1.5hr tempo ride on Wednesday?
Then enter the race as you planned to do, but ride without the HR monitor. Stick with your mates, enjoy it, and be aware of what's going on within the race... and avoid the tail-end of the bunch!
