Dragon Ride - accommodation

Postby Mike I » Fri Mar 16, 2007 9:04 am

Has anyone else booked somewhere to stay for the night before the ride? A lot of the cheaper hotels in and near Bridgend seem to be fully booked already, so I've had to shell out a bit more than I had intended. I knew the £65 I got for hanging around in Southwark last week would come in handy.

And any more thoughts on car-sharing / hiring a coach / chartering a jumbo jet to take us there? I will probably drive down and could fit one (or at a push two) passengers and bikes.

Did that include Inner London Weighting, Mike?

Both myself and Phillipe have booked into the Travel Lodge on the M4 outside Cardiff - about 12 mile ride to the start point at £50 per night.
not that cheap but reliable.
I heard it was becoming a problem booking anything. :?

If anybody is travelling down saturday, coming back monday and can fit two people and two bikes in Im sure we could share petrol :D .

Actually I'm ashamed to admit that only late on Friday night did it occur to me that you were referring to the TdF advert shoot. I'd originally assumed you were talking about another kind of paid activity that involves hanging around in certain parts of Southwark. In fact I was going to add that I felt you'd sold yourself short and recommmend you tried Lambeth next time...

You must have wondered what I was on about...

I've booked here http://www.mairsbedandbreakfast.co.uk/index.asp

I haven't worked out travel yet . If Mrs.Apples lets me take the car I will be able to offer a lift . I'll post nearer the time

I think the coach idea was dropped as people are staying in different locations and will want to come back at different times .

Just tried your Mairs B&B Richard and is fully booked, they recommended the Alexandria with no luck. The word is everywhere is fully booked not supprising I suppose if 2500 riders our coming to Town!
Was thinking if they will use the sports hall as a last resort?
Anyone else got some ideas(don't mention the sheep) apart from cycling miles to the start?

Try Travelodge

I got a room on Monday at a place 7 miles away on the M4.

Mark, a mate of mine booked the Mairs for me . I've asked him if he knows anywhere else .

My only other suggestion is the local tourist office.

The Travelodge sounds like a good bet.....nice warm up to the start

try B & B's in Porthcawl - I have booked the Marlew guest house..
Porthcawl is just a few miles away and, as Huw will tell you , it is a real swinging town !

cheers,
