there was a big field out and i was pleased to see matt and kieren out there, no toks though
first couple of laps were un eventful and i was near the front. then suddenly i found myself in a small breakaway with one other rider. he led for half a lap and decided to let me have my go up the hill towards the finish line which had a very strong headwind. he beckoned me to come round, so i did but it was painfully slow going , and soon we were swallowed up.
it was very hard to stay near the front, and i managed it towards the middle, because going along the back straight there was always a gap on the right so i could just surge up that.
for me from the middle onwards the race was pretty un eventful, i as completely pinned in at all times, no matter how hard i tried to get up the front i could not get through the maze of cyclists.
however, after laps of trying i was making some progress, when out of no where the bell went...now i had to really make an effort...trouble was everyone had the same idea and i made no more progress...some people were so desperate they went onto the grass!!
the sprint for me was not really a sprint, if anything it was slower than almost all the other laps going normally, i was in the saddle completly boxed in enjoying an almost musical sound of swear words from people all around me frustrated they were pinned in.
im pretty frustraited with it really, i had so much left in the tank at the end it was almost unbearable! trouble is i think im in that state of limbo--> i feel to strong to be in the middle of the pack the whole time, but im not quite strong enough to stay up near the front for a whole race with 2nd cats....so i suppose that means more training
good average speed of 25.1 mph, it felt pretty comfortable.
cheers
