Well the day didn't start under the best auspices as just out of Croydon an oncoming car decided to take a right turn cutting right across my path without looking, wooshh I went along the front bumper, and kaplunk on my right side on the tarmac. Got up mostly unhurt safe for scraped hip, arm and hand. Bike only had a scrape at the saddle, Assos bibs miraculously intact, but Rapha jacket sustained two holes and so did WC jersey. At least she recognised her 100% own fault and said she would pay for the damage. Thankfully (for her) Rapha can send me some fabric to be patched at the dry cleaners.
At lunchtime I wanted to do a workout at the gym, got onto the bike for a warmup, then into the workout proper it took me less than a minute at 250W to realise that my legs were actually pretty sore from yesterday's ride (started with Ian's social ride, which included a couple hard digs with Chris and Neil, then went back on my own via Box Hill) and that I wasn't going to withstand twenty minutes of it. So, to make the most of today's spring weather, I went for an easy run instead, banking on the fact that my running muscles would be in better shape than the cycling ones. Still felt pretty tired, especially facing the strong Westerly wind along the Thames. Took a slightly shorter route than usual, but still clocked over 36 minutes when it usually takes me 33-34.
With the clocks forward an hour, I might start riding back through Crystal Palace (and maybe do a few laps of the circuit to get reacquainted with it - hope I don't meet George on the way ...) or doing my extra 5-mile hilly loop up to Selsdon, hoping to do the gym bike session tomorrow and mostly resting Thursday and Friday in preparation for Saturday's race.
To the "proper" bloggers: keep on writin'
And to all: ride safely
