At least shimano dont rip you off for their top of the range gruppo...!

£625 Dura Ace, £1100 Record, dont even get me started on 'oh sh!t my breaks dont work as i rapidly aproach an alpine hairpin at 60mph' for over £1200!

...also hiding, in an old air raid shelter, location undisclosed!

Adam the phrase you get what you pay for ring a bell  .
When I've seen groupset comparisons they tend to compare Dura Ace with Chorus, Record seems to stand alone :)

I'm sure there's sod all diff in performance it between shimano Dura Ace and Campag Record. Although I've never experienced myself as I've always ridden Shimano.

As a bit of a teaser to the campag boys who hate the haning STI cables one could always fit the new Sram shifters & Sram rear derailleur to a 10 speed shimano group. Shifters are cheap in the states selling for around £190 compared to £330 in the UK.

Just teasing myself. I admit to being a Campag snob.

Seriously I think once you get to the top 2 of both ranges they're both excellent, and a lot boils down purely to personal preference. Some Shimano users don't like the more mechanical nature of Campag, which in some cases is what Campag users do prefer.

I saw something from Matt White who now rides for Discovery and switched from a Campag team to a Shimano one comparing the two. He basically said both worked superbly and the only real difference for him was in the levers. He said having smaller hands he liked the Campagnolo ergos over the Shimano sti ones.

I rode a test bike which was fitted with Shimano, and only having paws myself just found the levers too big and they consequently felt clumsy to use. That is the real reason (and the fixed position brake lever) why I would only use Campagnolo. (SRAM an option in the future?)

He doesn't at Milram, but at T-Mobile Zabel used Nokon cables with Shimano to create a tight bend and put the cables behind the bar tape, ala Campag and clear the clutter.

Just to add something to this.
Those of us of ***ahem*** a certain age who remember watching racing in the 60's and 70's and much of the 80's will know that Campag was the de facto choice for all components and hence has a certain nostalgia.
As a boy, looking in bike shop windows at a Super Record rear mech was like looking at ultra expensive jewelery. Back then there was no choice. Campag was the best.Bar none.
That same nostalgia lives on today. I suspect a fair few of us older cyclist choose Campag over the fishing gear for the very same sentimental reasons.

Since we're here, I might mention that I once went to the Shimano web-site (no, I can't remember why either) and got a page with a load of fishing equipment on it :? . At least the Italians only do bike stuff.

Lamborghini started out making tractors.

Campagnolo is also employed by NASA and F1 to make some of the more intricate bits and pieces they need as they are the recognised world experts in producing small technical things in carbon fibre.

So there, stick that on the of your fishing rod! :D
Is the Shimano corporate mascot a gnome?
