Herne Hill Good Friday - Riding out

Postby Andrew G » Tue Apr 03, 2007 7:08 pm

The weather's due to be good, the meeting is a classic.

I'm going to be cycling over and if anyone wants to join me for a pre-CR leg spin, the more the merrier. Pace will be that of the slowest rider so everybody's welcome.

Come and see Bradley and co in their new World Champions jerseys!

Sprint qualifying is at 11 but the main programme starts at 1pm.
I will be leaving East Croydon Station at 12 noon.

The events programme is:
c. ADEPT HANDICAP SPRINT HEATS1.00pm
1 ADEPT HANDICAP SPRINT FINAL
2 ED TAYLOR POINTS RACE
3 WHITE HOPE SPRINT HEATS
4 INVITATION SPRINT HEATS
5 TEN MINUTES PURSUIT
6 WHITE HOPE SPRINT REP
7 CATFORD CC DEVIL
8 WHITE HOPE SPRINT FINAL
9 INVITATION SPRINT REP
10 MOTOR PACED RACE
11 DASH nos 1- 65
12 INVITATION SPRINT SEMI - FINAL
13 WOMENS KIERIN
14 ELIMINATION RACE
15 DASH nos 66+
16 INVITATION SPRINT FINAL
17 RON BECKETT SCRATCH
18 GOLDEN WHEEL 20K SCRATCH

A definate highlight is the Motor Paced Race, this is done on Stayers bikes behind big motorbikes (the rider standing up to shield from the wind). This is not something you see very often.
A couple of pics from the 2005 Stayers Race.

I'll be heading over there, but not sure what the best way to get there is !!

If I cycle, is there a place to lock the bike up inside the track, or are you planning on leaving it outside...

Can you get a bus from Croydon on Good Friday !!

there are quite a few places to lock bikes up around the track perimeter, or you could take a train from west croydon, changing at tulse hill for herne hill - check engineering works first!

No good for your De Rosa Ian, but great for picking up bits and pieces for an old fixie as a lot of modern stuff doesn't fit an old steel track frame (or look the part).
You could even get everything to build one up from scratch :D
I think it's a shame it won't be there, but then there's a couple of odds and sods for mine I was after.
