Sorry Marco may have already answered this on the other thread before I saw this.

I agree with your comments Dominic, but there is probably the potential for them to get "lost" in there with other posts pushing them down the list.

I agree with Dominic, that's what the Racing bit of the forum's for.

Yeah, ditto. There has been a marked improvement in communication between the racing boys this season so far... long may it continue...

I think some kind of calendar where poeple could post events they are doing might make it easier . I need to plan things in advance so I can fit in around family commitments.

Howzabout:
New Events area.
Default posts set up for each month.

Then members can add what they're doing in the right month, edit your own post to add events rather than add new ones for new events, so 1 post per month per member. This should keep it very clean and easy for people to use as quick reference.

I take the points made about communication in the Racing forum for RRs and TTs, but a lot of members are sportivists. This needs a lot more planning for entry, travel and accomodation arrangements.

Ta,
A.

I like your thinking Andrew. If its as easy to set up as Marco says then I can't see a problem .

The test will be if it gets used or not

I'd be happy to add the events I'm doing this year

Boing !

Has anybody got anymore thoughts on this ?

Bearing in mind the avance planning involved and the distance needed to travel to get to some of these rides.

There are probably a lot of shared travel opportunities being missed :(

Just another idea, similar to Andrew's but how about if the grouping is based on events rather than people. It might make it easier to see who's going to each event rather than opening up everybody's posting just to see if they're going to a particular event.

So,

1. A new calender area is set up

2. People can add a new "topic" with the subject name and date of the race/sportive

3. Others can then add their name as a post just to say they are going and possibly where they are staying and if they are offering lifts.

As Andrew said, the idea would be only names and dates and travel are added to the list. Any further discussions about travel share, tips etc can happen else where. This way the topic is kept clean for easy reference. Each person can edit their post if they subsequently decide not to go.

While it would also work for racing, I think this area would be most useful to sportive people because of the prior planning required.

In fact I think I'll start one just for the Fred Whitton right now (it's on May 13). I'll put it in the general area for now

SPORTIVES sounds good enough Marco. As you comment there could be confusion otherwise. RR and TTs are quick to arrange organisation wise and disappear quickly as they're completed. The sportives may need sorting months in advance for hotels etc.

Following on from the post about helpers for events - we obviously need something for helpers as well! This calendar could be for ongoing changes and new events but with reminders about events which need ACC helpers.

This would back up the verbal communications made at the cafe, club room and by email. Hey how about a notice board at Renata's?

I think I will repeat some of this on the other thread.
