[quote="Elliot M"]you're pushing UCI disqualification! wouldn't replacing the forks be the most economical way to save a chunk of weight?

I remember weighing a wheel both inflated then deflated (to the gram) and there was a difference.

With a volumic mass of approx. 1.3kg/m3 (1000 litres) for air, assuming the volume inside a road tire is 0.7l (guesstimate) you should have 7l at 10 bars, which should weigh around 5.4gm per tire.

I'm no expert though so please correct me if those figures are wrong!

People on forums always come up with the question "why don't you fill tires with helium", I think it is possible but a) the difference wouldn't be much and b) it would leak through the tube way too fast.

I saw a bike with a bamboo frame and crankset in Japan - that was pretty light. Rust proof as well.

I think it caught fire though... or a panda ate it or something

Seen that Calfee before but didn't realise it was a production model. Available with hemp fibre lugs!

edit: apparently the bike in the pic above has birch rims and yes those are real Texan steer horns...

They are custom aluminium clincher wheels from the US from Ligero Wheelworks.

The front is a Alex R3.1 rim, Sapim CX Ray spokes & Tune Mig 70 hub.

The rear is the Alex R400, Sapim CX Ray spokes & Powertap SL hub.
