Tour De France Route reccy

Postby mrP(Boonen)VT » Mon Apr 02, 2007 5:48 pm

I will be riding along (as near as possible) the full Stage 1 of TDF on Saturday 21 April.
There is a train service to bring us back into Charing X or Bromley South.
Estimated distance will be 135 miles, at a modest pace.
Please contact if interested

[quote="seanhogan(CondorMan)"]Count me in.

Did I read that right
Good on you Sean, you'll really benefit from a long ride just don't forget the chamois cream in the morning! I would join you but I'm going to do the SCCU 25 the following day. That would make doing this very unwise, particularly as 1st rider is off at 7:00 and knowing my luck it would be me :)

TDF Route reccy

Jon,

Nothing spectacular as I have a 25 the next day.

22's should do...

Seriously, the pace will be adjusted so that the slowest rider in the group will not be uncomfortable (usually me!!!). Bear in mind that it is a long day, with some big hills, we won't be rushing along.

Booking train in advance is really cheap if 4 are travelling together.
Sean, John Brian, are you all happy to go to Bromley South?

TDF route

Postby Paul on the Pearson » Thu Apr 12, 2007 7:14 pm

Paul I'll be up for this. Any idea how many bikes will be allowed on the train? I'd imagine the trains to the big smoke or Bromley are pretty regular so could wait for the next train if the bike quota gets used up.

Still in planning mode.

Any suggestions welcome.

Proposal:

Meet at 8:00am at Bromley South
Up to London and then complete route to Canterbury, stopping en route for lunch (TBA - there is a lovely pub in Tenterden??)
Train back from canterbury to Bromley South (Cheapest method is a group ticket for 4 - around £10. I have checked re bikes and have been told they accept 2 per carriage, and that it shouldn't be a problem on a Saturday to take 5) Trains are frequent and take around 1:20minback to Bromley South. may need lights for final part of journey.

Easiest route for me is A23. Norbury, DeVers, Streatham, Brixton.

Is that easier for everyone?

If I leave Croydon at 8:00am, then pick you up in Brixton around 8:30am?
Hows everyone else?
