The best Mountain Bike series in the country is back :D

From http://www.beastway.com/series2007/index.html:

"Beastway will be held at Hainault Country Park, a move forced on us with the destruction of Eastway Cycle Circuit for the 2012 Olympics

It's all change for us at the Structureless Tyranny for starters where are we racing? Although we are heartbroken to lose Eastway we move on (hoping to return should the 'suits' start listening) with a new venue at Hainault Country Park.

We have been made very welcome at Hainault Country Park and we will offer as ever top racing held in a friendly spirit. The course will feature woodland (real trees!), grassland and hills, and you can rest assured that our team will be working to make the courses interesting to ride.

Numbers maybe down as the many, many London based riders may find it hard to get there after work - Transport for London have a Journey Planner which despite draconian restrictions on Bikes, show tube, bus and train information. We hope you can make it!

- There are showers, changing facilities, toilets and a canteen.
- The Hainault Forest Country Park makes a £2 pay & display charge for car parking.

Entry on the line only. Dates 2007: Every Wednesday at 7.30 from May 16 to July 25 with youth cats going at 8pm".

From Bill Wright:

"We'd be really grateful if the Agreeables could run one night of the series again. As before, we would need around 10 people - 3 or 4 for lapscoring and 6 or 7 for marshalling. It helps us if they can arrive by about 6.45pm so that we have time to get people in position before the race starts. If there is anyone who can be free during the afternoon to help mark out the course, that would help us even more. We start coursemarking at about 3pm.

The event we'd like you to cover, if possible is the one on July 18th (Wednesday) - ie week 8 of the series. This isn't set in stone, so if another date would be easier to get your members to, please say so and we'll try to move other clubs around if possible. If you think you may not be able to get all 10 people, then let us know - we could put you with another club if you like. As in previous years we will be happy to make a donation to your club for your efforts (nb £150 last year)".

The exact address for the venue is Hainault Forest Country Park, Romford Road, Hainault IG7 4QN if you want to check it out on a mapsite.

It is a further 10-odd miles from London than Eastway, and you can get there by bike. By car from Croydon via the M25, it is a 40-mile drive.

Grahame who is a member of the "Beastway Tyranny" and myself would most probably organise drives from the Croydon area leaving at around 5-5.30, so could take 3 to 4 volunteers each in our car. If you were driving yourself we'd be covering your parking and Dartford crossing costs, and like last year you'd be offered sandwiches.

I know it is still early and a bigger commitment to ask for than when the series was held at Eastway, but if you do intend to give a hand, even if you can't confirm until later in the year, please post here or contact me by PM so that I can have a feel for volunteership, and let Bill know if Addiscombe can pull it off (of course we can! :D ).

Thanks

Sylv - in principle I'm very happy to lend a hand, my motor can take four. The proposed date is a problem for me - I'll be in Siena on July 4th. So - I'll watch this space and see how we go....for info I'm away from 1st to 21st of July (grand tour of Italy: Milan, Siena, Rome, Bologna, Lake Garda) 8)

Cheers - Snoop

I could probably help out on the 4th, go over straight after work if there's a station near the park, but would be on the scrounge for a lift back to Croydon.

Thanks Andrew, yes I think you can stop at Chigwell or Hainault which is on the central line, approx. 50 minutes journey from Victoria. Lift back shouldn't be a problem.

I'll post more info on transport when I find out.

Sylv,
NO problem helping in principle but am stuck for transport as I cannot park my car here on a Wednesday.

Anyone help out from somewhere near Kingswood. I can leave about 4:00pm and will be on my bike?

Well as it turns out Grahame is also away on the 4th, so in the meeting it was decided to change the date to the 18th July.

Thanks Paul didn't understand all of your message, but we can speak about it next time I see you.

Sylv,

I can help out if required, but need to arrange transport. I guess its too far to ride to from town.

Can I get a train or can someone give me a lift.

Ta,

Graham.

The cycle route planning websites say that Hainault Country Park is 16 1/2 miles from London Bridge, so "quite" a long way, but not not much further (if any) than Hillingdon. However, you will be able to use the tube to bring your bike back into "town" after the event.

I think that once we get an idea of numbers, we'll be able to sort out some kind of car sharing scheme for the 18th July.

Watch this space.

I'm here for the 18th.
I'll book the day off work and drive up.

That will be the only week I go:

Trying to contain my huge disappointment with new location.

Utterly impractical if you live in most southern London boroughs.

Trying to be constructive I am very keen to explore locations within a sensible distance of Addiscombe.

I spoke to John Molyneux about this last summer and he wasn't very encouraging.

Is it something that we as a club can try and get going?

Thanks Simon

I think John has taken a step down from Bway this year, don't think he will be much involved (is that right Grahame?). Probably gives you an idea of the work and dedication involved if even he thinks it is too much.

Not sure what you imply with ACC being involved - in finding an existing venue capable of holding week in week out up to 200+ riders and their cars? In organising a whole series?

I would like to show my support to the people who have made it possible to run a series this year, by taking part and racing, but it is going to be a huge hassle to get there. With C. Palace on the way back from work weeknight racing is more than likely to be roadie stuff for me, even though I will miss Beastway.

I'm not knocking the effort put in by Bill and everyone but as you say it is impossible for you or I to race there each week.

I just meant a one off MTb race somewhere near S.London.
I did wonder whether Brixton, Norwood Paragon, GS Avanti, Darenth and so on might be interested in getting together with ACC to put something on.
