[quote]Felt like a good fast run today but when we got to the cafe my cycling computer was only showing an average speed of 21.1 mph. It was even more depressing to find out that the group behind us had averaged 21.2 mph (it seemed strange how they had'nt caught us, considering both groups had taken the same route).
The training group must have been gutted as we were only cruising!
A nice bright morning brought out loads fo non racers, resting racers and a fair portion of couldn't care lesses!
Bright sunshine brings out the bling and a dazzling display of shiny bikes and new stuff- coupled with a lot of bone white legs
Titanium, carbon and deffo no mudguards were the order of the day.A smattering of colnagos, a coupla sevens, two de rosas and new bike of the day- the Shadows "Ridley"- as yet un-named.
A fine old pace was set up the first col de M23 (tailwind
) as the "fast 18's left the station.
Alan, Steve and Paul did a fine job keeping the pace up this ensured a very long strung out group of riders all trying to keep to a wheel.
I guess we had about 20 riders in our group but the traffic was light today.
All thru the lanes the pace was rather brisk and not at all like the gentlemens 18 from a few weeks previous. Alan did a massive pull on the front and i tucked in - that really streched everyone out.
We did the long dual carraigeway in two groups so as not to cause any traffic problems but i think everyone was at the coast as it was quiet.
One good thing about riding with newer people is that they dont know where the sprint is so i can now claim my first sprint win
.
Riding the best bike for the first time this year was great- gives you wings.
Avg speed by the time i was home was 21mph, fastest for a while
