Bedfordshire 25 - F1b

Postby mrP(Boonen)VT » Mon Apr 16, 2007 9:18 am

Steady ride Saturday to Chertsey MOD to watch the lads race (Fantastic WIN John) in preparation for the 25 on a fast 25 course based on the A1 just North of Biggleswade, Bedfordshire.

Up at 5:00am, bike in car (disc wheel included) and easy drive across London, onto A1, A1M, a lovely bright sunny morning, then through Hatfield and into FOG.

FOG was patchy, and sun was coming up, but it was by now 6:30am with first man off at 7:00am.

Got to HQ at 7:20am and no sign of any riders, THICK FOG. Organiser put start back by 45 minutes but with no sin of it clearing the event was CANCELLED.

Drove home, and rode down to Winchester instead, but that's another story.

Sorry to hear that. What a bummer. But not a complete waste atleast you had a ride in the sunshine.

Shouldn`t venture north of the river reallyl

Paul,

I really felt for you when I heard. I was tempted by this one but as I had already entered the Redmon, I thought that discretion was the better part of valour. I was also little jealous that I had missed an opportunity to ride a fast course, maybe next time.

Bad luck, it really is grim up north (of the river) then. :D
Saving the 56 for the SCCU?

After 130 miles the day before - sure....I may even ride out just to get a decent warm up.

BTW on the way to Winchester, thought I would do a quick 25 then hang on, as I was supposed to be riding a 25.

From my house, covered the first 25 miles in 1:03:27, then the roads got a bit more lumpy, the second 25 in 1:08:00, and the last lumps into Winchester took the wind out of my sales, but still got there 68 miles in 2:58:33 - Avge 22.8mph, and into a slight headwind/crosswind.

Got a lift back so as to see Paris-Roubaix (not because I was a wee bit tired :!: )

Had to go to Gatwick this morning, so put in an extra 30 miles on the way to work, average 19.6mph on my commuting bike, but the drag up Reigate Hill was a killer.
Maybe a couple of easy days are due :?:
