bandwidth and line speed

I feel sure that one of you out there understands this stuff - from time to time my Skype drops connection from between a few minutes and 2 hours and during this time I cannot connect.

My ISP is tiscali and I have checked line speed which seems to be around 950Kbps down and 250 up. (using this test http://www.auditmypc.com/broadband-speed-test.asp ) I (or my wife's employer pays £17.99/month) I had been working on the hypothesis that the problems were to do with band width at peak times but who knows - any thoughts at a level that I can interpret will be much appreciated.

Hi marco, thanks. The rest of the internet seems to function OK. My connection drops but I still show as online to other skype users and them to me. When I call I seem not to get through and can't access the voice test. That said I can still use the skype out phone function and skypecast. this seems to happen on 1:1 calls. On conference calls usually someone seems to drop connection but they can usually be connected back in
