I've decided that the long distance rides are the thing for me this season and although the trainings comming along (slowly) it starts in earnest this weekend with the White Horse Challenge !

I've noticed a number of agreeables going for the Dragon and the TDF, are any of you doing the White Horse?

This is why i'm not available to help on Sunday - although at this late stage marshalling is looking far more attractive than 100+ miles through Wiltshire.

Sounds inviting but ...... I've paid my money and it's one of this years challenges - and now they say the weathers going to be HOT !!

And i'll be flying the addiscombe flag - well shirt.

So the White Horse Challenge ....... what a ride.

Was a great event, well organised, well signed, good feed stations and even microchip timing.

Event was 150k of Wiltshires best - was bloody cold at the start, 8.5 deg and it took a few miles to get warmed up. The first 20 or so miles were fairly flat and then the hills started to the south of Swindon. There were about five notable climbs (the last at 87 miles - very cruel) and a long (10 to 15 mile) stretch that seemed to be on an upward gradiant against the wind the whole time. This really sapped the strength and it was noticable on most riders faces.

Was really worth doing and I would recomend it to other members who like long distance organised rides. There was an abundance of photographers and video cameras, so hoping for some good pics.

So how did I do .... 5:31:17 - Gold medal standard and the only agreeable shirt in site

Had I not been doing the White Horse I would certainly have been at the 25 to help, but as you can probably imagine I had entered the White Horse challenge some time ago - as you have to to get into these popular events.

With a club the size of ours I find it quite amazing that there is trouble finding helpers for a couple of hours on a Sunday morniong - after all, we do manage to get a lot of people out for the club run on a Sat.
