Road Conditions

Postby Marek » Sun Apr 29, 2007 6:16 pm

Is it just me or is this year one of the worst years for the quality of the road conditions. It seems like the local councils have cut back, does anyone agree or know why?

Cheers

cos they're too busy p*ssing our money up the wall on useless cycle paths! Additionally round our way they seem to spend the first 6 months of the year putting in thoroughly impractical street works, then the next 6 undoing it all again.

I've had lots of dealings with the highways dept over the years and I have to say (with apologies to any highwaymen/women out there) I finds them to be a most inflexible, head up yer a*se type of peeps.

Grrrrrrr

Thanks for posting this Marek - I feel much better now.

Im no sure if things are worse in general...

Could it just be the post winter thawing of roads drying out and cracking up?

How comes you say this anyway Marek, you havn't broken another wheel have you!?

Cheers,

Its a combination of the wet winter and the reduction of Government subsdies to Southern Councils

having not been on a CR for months, i found yesterday pretty shocking in terms of potholes... I changed bars recently and threw away the Specialized gel pads I'd had under the tape as they'd punctured! Anyway by the end my wrists were numb - going to get another set of pads.

If anything in Reigate and Banstead Botough Council area needs fixing they have a reporting facility and they seen quite at fixing holes I've reported to them.

No, thankfully not yet, but I am sure it will happen this year with the state of some of the racing circuits. I just got thinking about it after hearing about Stu and Matt today. Also, last couple of road races I have done I have found that some of the roads have been really bad.

I don't know the whys and wherefors but they have definately got worse in the last 12 months.

There will always be potholes, but the roads are currently covered with craters. So many chunks of road missing which look like someone has dug a lump out, I don't consider these a normal pothole they're far worse.
