Ride to Nice

Postby mrP(Boonen)VT » Fri May 04, 2007 9:33 am

Talking to Adam last night, he had an idea  for 2008, to ride from here to Nice (in a week).

Sounds like a great idea - no plans yet on dates, route etc, but in principle would need a backup vehicle.

Any thoughts :?:

I've done similar before - rode to Monte Carlo from Belgium - 4 riders 1 car - rotated the driver so that everyone had a rest day every 4th day. Awesome experience- So I'd be interested

It might be worth checking if the CTC have routes for this type of thing. I know their holiday arm do a variety of this type of trip and are not very expensive but most trip leaders limit the mileage to 80-100k a day though.

Not sure what the mileage would be for a weeks trip but it's probably more like 100miles a day.

Sounds great . I'd be up for this .

Mrs.A usually takes the kids away for a week during the school summer hols with her mum and sister so as long as it was the same week I'd be ok

sounds cool

support vehicle could come in handy - i know someone who claims that he rode from his RAF base in germany back to the uk in 2 days - drafting behind a minibus the whole way!

Blimey Paul you got in their quick, mind you i suppose its going to need a fair bit of planning. But my grand idea does incluude doing the last leg of the journey following the Route des Grand Alpes...

Mind you this is supposed to take a week but im sure thats negotiable! So yeah any thoughts would be great. Alls i will say is theres no point taking my car, a little peugeot 106 is only enough for me and my bike let alone 5+ of us' stuff!

Sounds good - and sets a goal for 2008

I could be up for this but depends on dates.

Excellent. The first few hundred miles are pretty flat, and last year I averaged 110 miles a day with 2 huge fully loaded paniers :!:

I can't wait :!:
