MTB Sunday 6th May - Bank Holiday w/e

Postby Phil L » Tue May 01, 2007 12:29 am

I am planning to head off to the Chilterns for some mountain biking this weekend. I have Robyn and some other mutual friends joining me, with possibly Alan, Dave (Dishman), Grahame, Pete from ACC all expressing some interest so far. So just looking to see who else might be keen for something different.

It is great MTB territory which I have cycled around several times before. Not sure of the exact route on the day, but it will be between 24 and 32 miles. I'm totally dependent on my GPS to get me around the area :? , but don't worry, if the batteries fail, there are people on the ride who know their way around without a map :P . These are two examples of routes I have done in the past:

The ride will take around 3 to 4 hours, so requires an early start of 9:45am at the Five Horseshoes pub (near Watlington) in order to return for a pub lunch at a reasonable time.

The drive takes around 1hr 15 mins so need to head off around 8:15am. I can take 4 additional passengers plus bikes in my people carrier. PM me if you are interested in joining us.

I still think I am up for this Phil, mentioned it at home without a response one way or the other so that's a yes in my book!

Bum. I forgot we're expecting house pests to arrive at lunchtime on Sunday, so my Sunday pass has been revoked.

Lanes and potholes for me again, I'm afraid.

A few of us old-timer mtbers (!) - Joel, Cushtie and me - are planning to do a ride this Sunday - we'll meet usual place and time (ECBR 10am) so anyone else is welcome to come with us - we'll see how it works out but we might do one single ride if marco and others turn up, or there will always be the option for two groups of different speeds (like the clubrun!).

I think Joel 3pm. If you can refrain from stopping for a chat at the top of each little climb maybe we can all ride together :-)

Talking of training for singlespeed racing ... how about a barbequeue & beers at mine afterwards?

Veggie/teetotal option for marco of course!

I think it's supposed to rain on Sunday, but hopefully not!

Oi!!, hop it, start your own thread

Seriously though, you are all quite welcome to join us in the Chilterns if you like :) ... pub lunch involved ... possibly a BBQ on ... in a beer garden 8) ...

I still have room for an extra passenger ... could extend to another two lifts if needed. Leaving Purley area around 8am for 9:30am start in the Chilterns to do the longer ride (see map) - takes around 4 hours. Should be home for around 4:30 to 5pm.

Yes apologies Phil, didn't want to create muliple 6th May threads, but then realised about it.

Anyway seeing the uncertain weather, let's just say we'll end up at the Cricketers pub in Croydon after the ride, this way the ones like Joel who have to be back early can just stop for a 1/2 pint.

That sounds good idea sylv, hopefully having done the last couple of night mtb rides i'll be able to keep up.
I was thinking of going out to Box HIll myself on sunday. I'll see you at east Croydon!!!
Unfortunately Kev's made other plans otherwise i'd drag him out as well as it was him that got me back into mtb'ing.
