Dilema - help needed

Postby huw williams » Fri May 04, 2007 4:36 pm

So there I was - Friday lunchtime, only half a day to go before the start of a promising weekend's riding then this happened:

Someone put this in front of me and said - "take it for a spin would you."

Its a Time VXR Pro Team which specced up with all that top end campag stuff is worth about £4000. I love this job sometimes.

Anyway two hours later I'm back (without any expensive crashes thank god) and I now realise that every day of my life spent without owning this bike is a day wasted. Consumately the best bike I have ever ridden, surpassing the Pinarello Paris I was given for last year's eponymous gran fondo.

So what's the dilemma? Well I've got a few grand tucked away in the bank to pay for a new bathroom which Steve "the shadow" Broomfield (who is also a local builder of some reputation in case you didn't know) is penciled in to install.

So, members: Is it the bike and a life of total bliss for myself while Mrs Shadow and the Shadow kids go hungry or is it a life of bathing in luxury while the Shadow and family dine out fancy every night but sleepless nights for me in the knowledge that the perfect bike is out there somewhere without me on it.

What's a man to do?

well, if it was me, I'd get the bathroom done, but only 'cause my wife wouldn'e be very happy (understatement!) If it was me and I was single I'd get the bike and go for a cheap dodgy builder.

Get the bike, but for christs sake please get rid of those dodgy gold wheels, i mean whats that all about!?

Or alternatively, stage a crash of the bike... find a local copper to 'forge' a report into it detailing how the bike had to be 'taken away as evidence, and has subsequently been misplaced' and robert is your mothers brother.

New bike, New bathroom and the Shadow even gets a wedge out of the dodgy dealings too!

a) Get the bathroom done, then sell your flat immediately. Spend the extra money you'll get for it on the bike.

That way, everyone's happy, well-shod and eating hot - only leaving the small matter of your having to find somewhere else to live.

b) Don't give the bike back.

Taking a median from replies so far it looks like I've got the bike, no wheels, nowhere to live but me and the shadow's family are at least eating well :-)

The scary thing is this bike is already lighter than the pope's condom usage, but as it came straight from the importer (Chickens) it features a load of the kit they supply, which is far from the lightest/best on the market.

If it had nice wheels like Adam's and a few other top end bits its frightening how good it could be

V Nice bike Huw, but I thought they gave you a new one to test all the Time anyway. Have you had to wave goodbye to the Merlin? I'd have made them an offer for that one if I was in your shoes.

The new Shamals are a fantastic light race wheel, but why they only do them in gold is a mystery. I'm sure they'd sell twice as many if they were available in black.

Woh!!!! Slow down guys, this is a very serious situation here.

Me and the Family Shadow have been eating bread and dripping for the last few months and things are getting desperate now. The knowledge that a new bathroom re-fit is nigh has given us all a glimmer of hope that we may, for a short while, be able to afford a few luxuries ie vegetables and meat. Maybe the shadow kids will even be allowed a few sweets, who knows ?

Does anyone really need a beautiful top end carbon bike with all the top end trimmings, when they could instead have a fantasticly fitted and beautifully finished (down to the last detail) bathroom that they can relax in in pure luxurious splendour :D

How am I doing guys?
Do you think I may have swung it?

Not bad Steve, but unveiling the Ridley has sort of knackered all your fine words.
